Hey guys, I am looking for a visa credit card (as you can guess it’s for Costco). I’m looking at CSR or Venture X. I right now have an AMEX platinum and have been enjoying the benefits that come with it.

What are some good benefits of the CSR and Venture X?

The VentureX for Costco is the right choice. 2X points and a $395 AF that can easily be covered by travel credit or an anniversary bonus. The CSR is $795 AF, with 1x points at Costco. Since you already hold the AMEX Platinum, it probably doesn’t make sense to get another high-fee AF travel card.

For Costco, it’s the Venture X without question. 2x > 1x, even arguments about Chase’s transfer partner value fall apart after the Hyatt devaluation this month takes away the one low effort method of matching the Venture X’s worst case 2% returns. VX also is far simpler to break even with the annual fee for, just one annual travel credit and the annual points bonus.

CSR and AMEX Plat will give you a significant number of coupon credits to manage that are not worth the hassle for most not to mention the annual fees from the two. The VX would be a good compliment to your Plat with an annual fee that is easy to recoup.

Venture X is very simple, easy to get value, CSR has awesome (though worsening soon) transfer partners and great credits if you use them. Right now I have both, I think the CSR is probably the better card, but I have had to practice some lifestyle inflation to recognize the value so VX is probably better for me.

I have the Venture X and would recommend it to everyone. It basically pays for the $400 AF on it’s own with 10,000 bonus miles every year + $300 annual credit through their travel portal. I find that the hotel prices through the Capital One portal are on par with other booking sites, sometimes cheaper.

You said the card is going to be for Costco, so between the two I would personally recommend Venture X over CSR. Venture X gets 2X and CSR gets 1X

Maybe get the normal Venture before the Venture X so you can get both SUBs. If you get the Venture X first, then you can’t get a SUB on normal Venture.

    6. executive + costco CC gives you 5% back. Probably the best route for costco travel!

    7. As someone that had both, I prefer Venture X over CSR but I do like CSP for access to chase points.

VX for 2x everything and the simplicity of the credits. Since you already have plat, hard to justify CSR imo.. would be too much to manage for me.

(If i wanted even less of an AF but wanted in on Chase, CSP ($95 AF and access to travel portal) + Freedom unlimited (1.5x everything and use at costco) could be an option) though i dont hold CSP, i do like the travel protections it holds.

      Just my thoughts!

    9. I dropped Reserve for Venture X + Amex Plat. The reserve is the worst value in cards.

Does either have a lounge in your airport, and also which has transfer partners you use?
