Hello
I have seen posts on here debating whether it's more cost-effective to own your own car or rely on ride share. What's the consensus? I live in Austin and work from home. Public transit is unsafe here. My issue is this (maybe you can relate): People won't stop hitting my car. Srsly, I only go a few years between collisions. Each time, $500 deductible, wait for repairs, send me on my way. The last one nearly killed me. It was a week ago and I'm still recovering. Now I'm without a car and I'm terrified of ever driving again. The question is, if I had the means, should I even buy another car?
Cost of ride share vs. owning your own vehicle.

If you basically never drive, maybe rideshare is more cost effective? Doubtful. Regardless, ridesharing is not going to protect you from accidents.
How often are you ride sharing? Seems like you just need to calculate that vs your insurance and car payment.
If you’re scared of driving then don’t buy a car. Being a scared driver will only result in more accidents imo.
You are free to take a break from car ownership and see how you do. If you can’t make it work, then buy an old, but reliable beater. If you can maintain non-owner insurance coverage so that you are easier to insure should you decide to buy another car (it will also be cheaper for you), that will be the best deal.
Ask yourself this:
Can you get around without a car?
How often do you need to go out?
How many miles do you travel each year? Is it less than 10,000 miles?
