My former house was damaged in a hail storm two months ago while it was for sale, decided to sell it anyways and do the repairs before closing using the insurance claim. My first check was $20k and it was enough to cover the repairs from the contractor I hired. My contractor pushed my home insurance company (State Farm) to give us more as he was trying to get more repairs done. I have since moved out (a week ago) and the house is no longer mine. Since then though, I have recieved two seperate checks, one being $6k and the other $4k. Is this money technically mine or what do I do with it? Unsure how to proceed with this. Thank you!

    1. You should finish paying your contractor so he can finish the repairs.

Contractors or even collision shops often find additional damages during the repair process. I would call your adjuster and ask what the payments are for and also your contractor.
