Hi all. Today I got hit by someone two houses earlier who’s insured and admitted it was their fault. I am not insured unfortunately (let’s skip telling me how dumb it is. Trying to survive in this economy). The police didn’t ask for my insurance and so no one so far knows that I have no car insurance. The question is, could I sign up for one right now and avoid getting fined and ticketed and whatever else might come along with not having an insurance? I am not going to claim anything on my insurance.
Got hit today. Not my fault. I have no car insurance

Not if anyone looks closely, but go ahead and get the policy ASAP. You should have insurance regardless.
Do not lie to the cops or the at fault driver’s carrier and say you had insurance at the time of the accident. But if no one asks…
What state? But if the police didn’t check, unless you are in a few states that might require accidents and insurance to be separately reported, you are probably in the clear. Getting insurance after the fact won’t change that you didn’t have insurance when the accident happened anyways.
Do you not have damages?
Signing up now won’t help you. Open a claim with the other person’s insurance for any damages.

You don’t have a choice since you didn’t have insurance *at the time of the accident*. You literally can’t avoid the consequences of not having insurance. There’s another aspect that you don’t seem to understand: If you don’t have insurance, you shouldn’t be on the public road and therefore no accident should have occurred. It’s strange that the police didn’t issue a citation for not having insurance, but the other driver’s insurance will more than likely not pay your claim for this reason. Getting insurance after the fact is too little too late.
Used to be in some instances you could be at fault because you should not have been there. You have no insurance and are not legally driving.
First of all you’re an idiot to not have insurance. Lawyers eat people like you for dinner, think an entire lifetime of garnished wages and lost tax returns and never being able to own anything if you WAS to be found at fault in an accident. With that said, Most states will receive a report from the police. The state will send you a form that is mandatory to be filled out ONLINE by your insurance company stating you had insurance at the time and date of the accident. If you don’t have insurance they suspend your drivers license. You need to check IF your state requires this. If not you’re probably good. If so then I really don’t know how you will be able to navigate this. Do you have any buddies in the auto insurance industry that willing to commit fraud. If not you have a problem developing.
