Went to a concert Wednesday night, ordered an Uber to go home and someone accepted the ride. I got in the car and the guy asked where I was going, I told him where it was (a little over an hour away) and he got annoyed that it was far away. So he made me cancel the Uber and we agreed on paying him $150 directly. He had his own credit card machine and took my card for the $150 plus tax. So I look later on and the guy added a $30 tip on afterwards. What should I do? That isn't what I agreed to.

    Should I reverse the charge?

Driver definitely scammed you by adding that tip without asking – I would dispute it since you never agreed to 30 extra on top of the 150

    2. You should of never left the Uber infrastructure and paid him directly. I would of cancelled and requested another driver. He accepted that ride initially.

100% do a chargeback. Not only do you get some of your money back but a high chargeback rate will get them kicked off the network.

Going off the Uber and paying the same price is giving up protections with no real reward.  If you’re going to do it atleast negotiate a steep discount

Your mistake was not telling him to pound sand when he balked at the destination.

“right where it says on the screen bro”

    6. You’re probably hosed. If the tip was added directly on the PINpad, the argument is going to be you consented to it.

Dispute it, maybe he did it on a handwritten receipt, or maybe the guy has a pattern that starts to smell to the card networks and his acquirer.
