Over the last few years I’ve noticed how easy it is to slowly lose money through recurring subscriptions you barely remember signing up for.
Streaming services, AI tools, mobile apps, free trials that quietly convert later… it adds up fast.
I also realized a lot of subscription tracking apps want access to your bank account or email inbox, which feels excessive for something that’s basically just renewal reminders.
Curious how people here manage recurring charges without things slipping through the cracks.
How do you keep track of subscriptions and free trials without forgetting them?

Personally, my notes app! And knowing i only have paramount and YouTube
Most people just use a simple calendar reminder or a dedicated note list instead of linking bank data… also doing a monthly “subscription audit” helps catch forgotten free trials before they auto-renew and drain money quietly over time.
Cancel the free trial right away. It’ll still be free for X days that I originally signed up for and then I won’t have to worry about forgetting about it later
I can count my subscriptions on 1 hand.
If I were having issues remembering, id create a tab group on my browser, or a folder on my phone labeled paid subscriptions
Free trails, id create a calendar event reminding me to unsubscribe the day before.
for streaming services i only subscribe to one service at a time. i don’t sub to any tools or mobile apps since there is almost always a free/FOSS version that is equal or better.
for any subscription or free trial i’ll cancel the subscription immediately so it doesn’t automatically charge again.
chime let you lock aka froze your credit card so no more , oh my god , i forgot to cancel the trial
I have Netflix, the cheap one with ads. And I have a gym membership that I paused.
When I accept a free trial, I cancel it right away. The free trial still works (in my experience) and then it ends on the day it is supposed to.
I have Grammarly Pro. But it ends next month and I won’t be renewing.
I have none right now now. When I want to catch up with Netflix or whatever I put a date in my calendar for a couple of days before I want to cancel it.
Anything I sign up for that’s a trial or a 1 time payment I cancel right away so don’t have to worry about it.
Typically cancelling immediately still lets you use it till period is over especially if you paid. If not, I just avoid them.
If it’s like 1.99 a month for 3 months just set a reminder in your calendar to cancel it a few weeks before the end. I tend to avoid these too.
Regular subscriptions I use them enough to know I have them.
I get notices from my bank for every transaction so if anything slips through or I stop using it, I’m notified immediately at monthly payment and can address.
Let me guess, you’re developing yet another pointless app to track app subscriptions. At least try to be less obvious with your ad template.
I keep a running note on my phone with the name, amount, and renewal date and check it whenever a charge hits that I don’t immediately recognize. Low tech but it means nothing has access to my accounts and I’ve caught two forgotten trials that way.
I don’t do them
Piece of paper and pencil.
Life is so goddamn simple if you put your phone down.
I only have two subs as I know they are a trap.
One sub helps me make money. The other costs 4 cups of coffee a year.
I have a list of all subscriptions and the date the deduction goes through. We share netflix with family. I mostly have a couple of funeral policies. O.o
I don’t start in the first place.
For free trial or things i do need to cancel i set alarms.
You have a computer in your pocket that has magical abilities.
I only have one subscription: Netflex. I’m an outstanding saver, because for every reason I have to buy something, I can find multiple reasons to counter it.
If I sign up for free trial, I cancel it right away. Usually the suppler would cancel my trial but still let me keep using it until the trial’s end date.
