Hi all, hope everyone is doing well this evening.
My husband and I are about to make some big purchases ($3k dropped on one purchase), so I figured it’s time to look into a new credit card for a sign up bonus.
We want to use this card specifically to start saving points for a flight from the USA to Japan in a few years preferably on an Asian airline, tho I’m not particularly picky on JAL vs ANA (willing to hear opinions on these as well).
We don’t dine out a lot and we never order groceries online. I noticed many cards with grocery bonus points were for online shopping specifically. I have a 800 credit score. I do want to avoid high yearly fees but $100-$300 is reasonable ($900 is not preferred). I am not a fancy lady and club/lounge access is not a selling point for me as much as just points for mileage.
I have been looking at:
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Amex Gold
Capital One Venture
Chase is my main bank where I already have a basic credit card, but I never really saved my points before (cash back to pay my card was just always instilled in my mind). Ive started to save up recently, but only 20k points. I do also have a discover card but I hardly use it, it’s an emergency card that my father has access to pay off.
I’m honestly overwhelmed by how many cards are out there and what cards will give me a better sign up bonus and still work with miles towards the trip I want to save for. I’ve been doing a lot of work this year to better my finances overall, so getting the most out of a credit card is my next journey. Please be kind, and any advice on which of these could be best for me is greatly appreciated. Or if there are other cards out there that would be better as well!
What is the best card for me?

Sounds like working up the Venture ladder will be great for you.
Savor > Venture > Venture x
good points gain from the Sub. great all around cc to keep in general as well. good points transfer for JAL use.
I would seriously consider a bilt Palladium card and you can also add a Chase Sapphire reserve card as well, they compliment each other so nicely.
