Honestly I didn't even know that was possible. I'm 22 and have the Discover It card as my only credit card, with a credit score of 795 and a credit history of 2 years. I just applied for the Wells Fargo Autograph card because I'm doing a study abroad next month(I should've realized and done this months ago ikkk but hindsights 20/20) and wanted a good card without any foreign transaction fees and decent perks. I also have a domestic travel trip planned for latter this summer. I've had a checking account with Wells Fargo since I was 15. I verified that I was pre-approved, so I applied, and then got denied. I'm currently unemployed because I'm a student and a financial aid recipient, plus a dependent of my parents.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Am I fucked? I figure I can't/shouldn't apply to the same card twice, or within the same bank twice, but Discover has terrible international coverage, and my only visas have crazy foreign transaction fees. I do have a Sofi mastercard, but they still seem to charge 0.2-0.9% foreign transaction fees(something something SoFi fees + mastercard fees idrk). At this point I'm just kind of venting/spiraling but any advice on how to get myself out of this predicament would be very helpful.
Got Denied For a Card After Pre-Approval. What Now?

Pre-approval doesn’t guarantee anything unfortunately – they probably saw teh unemployment status and noped out even with your solid credit score
What did you put for income? Your allowance, or did you straight up put zero just because you’re a student? Have you pulled your credit reports recently to check for oddities? With students sometimes it can also be something like an address mismatch between reports and what you put in. If any of the above are applicable issues then you can call for reconsideration and have your info corrected
Otherwise try a different bank’s pre-approval. There are a lot of no AF no FTF credit cards out there.
Two years is a tough zone for a major bank. That is a bummer on pre-qualification. You could try other banks but that transaction fee isn’t terrible. If you can pay cash overseas, check out the Schwab debit card, but if you need to float big hotel stays, it might not be enough.
The Autograph is a good card, but it’s not the best. You could try for the Capital One Savor student card.
If that doesn’t work the AAA Travel Advantage card is pretty solid With 5% back on gas and 3% back on dining, travel, & groceries and no AF or FTF.
