Has anyone else gotten this notification? What is this referring to? As far as I know, there are no disasters or pandemics anywhere near me.

If you didn’t make that request I would absolutely call them asap and get an answer. While banks may be able to place you in forbearance temporarily without consent (which even that id question), they absolutely need to provide you with a justification for it. The main thing they need to tell you is why they did it and if interest will continue to accrue.
Okay FEMA did declare an emergency in the county I live in as a result of landslides that happened 5 months ago, and apparently the feds will auto forebear your loans in that case, at least according to the chatbot I talked to. Weird.
