Our house went on the market on Monday. We had a showing yesterday and have one today. I really don’t want to decline any showings as we’re very motivated to sell. We have a 3 month old baby and are moving back home to be closer to family.

We also have 5 cats. For our first showing we got all the cats and litterboxes out of the house and cleaned like crazy. We also had the home professionally cleaned last week. All of our personal items are out and the place has been completely decluttered.

I’m an ED RN that works night shift. So, that means that I can be here when there are showings to clean the house and get the cats out. But it also means there will be showings when I’m supposed to be sleeping. For instance there is a showing this afternoon when I’m supposed to be napping before work. Instead I’ll be picking up the house, getting the cats and baby out. Fortunately I didn’t work last night but there will be some days where I have worked the night before and go back into work the night of the showing, meaning I’ll likely only get a small amount of rest and spend a good chunk of the day picking up again, moving the cats out etc. I’m legit concerned about the lack of sleep I’m about to face.

My partner works remotely from home but they don’t have much flexibility and are in constant meetings, so they can only help me here and there. I know the market in the Southeast sucks for sellers right now so I’m expecting to be doing this for months on end. How will I survive? Does anyone have any tips? I’m trying to keep the house as clean as possible on a day to day basis but it’s challenging with a 3 month old and so many cats. It’s not an option to move into a short term rental (I just don’t feel we can afford it plus we have so many cats) and we don’t have family in the area that can host us.

Any tips for getting through selling a house? (showings, night shift, sleep, cats etc)

    1. Icy-Refrigerator-807 on

we have a similar thing going on

      no open houses

we require pre approvals for all showing requests

we picked 3 days for buyers to pick from and allow 2 hours each of those days for screened buyers to come and view the house

we also ask buyers to confirm the day of their scheduled showing to avoid no shows

we take the pets and kids for a ride in the car in crates for 2 hours

      good luck
