2016 Ram Rebel, 50k miles….perfect low mileage truck. Wife drove to airport and someone side swiped it while she was away, came back to hit and run damage.

Claims process has started 'easy' enough, took photos got estimate, took to shop, shop has started work. This is where issues start to arise.

    1. Rear bumper – OEM is powder coated. Geico wants to replace with aftermarket/3rd party…which is painted. Shop is escalating with Geico to try and resolve. Obviously one of the reasons I bought this truck 10 yrs ago was the all metal powder coated bumpers front and back and the 3rd party is a significant change to function.
    2. Fender flares – OEM is black texture and no longer available. Geico says use aftermarket/3rd party for 1 flare out of 4. 3rd party flare doesn't fit and also looks completely different, Ram Rebel was a pretty specific model with weird lines. ANYWAY. So once again shop says we can get a different type of OEM, will work with Geico but they are painted. So somehow if Geico agrees to pay for 1 fender flare I am going to be on the hook for 3 others to get painted and installed. Which doesn't sit right with me.

Geico claims, trying to determine how much I am going to end up out of pocket.

ur not getting oem on a basically 11 year old vehicle unless u have an oem endorsement (assuming GEICO is ur carrier) or oem is somehow more cost effective

So geico doesn’t owe the labor for undamaged parts. Your policy is also written that geico can use the most cost effective parts available.

    3. Unless you have an endorsement on your policy, you will not be getting OEM parts

    4. I understand the whole “not OEM parts” but shouldn’t the parts at least be the same GENRE? An all steel powder coated bumper is not the same as a painted bumper cover….they design of the two are completely different

Tell them you want to file a diminish value claim because of the accident and non-OEM parts.  Just know that may lead to them totaling the vehicle.

      Dude, it’s a 10-year-old truck. Practically a beater.

It’s not going to be pristine, and perfect, forever,

      Powder coat is still paint.

Maybe see if they’ll paint all four fender flares.

    7. they owe to restore it back the way it was before, but that doesnt mean they have to pay t match things or such. if a different but similar part is avail and the only choice they will us that
