Ah, more protectionism for American manufacturing and hydrocarbon energy production. Glad to see these conservatives (and Michigan based liberal) care so much about free markets.

It’s just part of trump’s“Art of the deal” to pretend they have more leverage over China than they do as they head into their top secret billionaire chess monopoly meeting.

    3. Why limit this to Chinese vehicles?

Ban sales in the US of any vehicle with any type of data connectivity to any auto manufacturer.

No subscriptions. No monitoring. No remote feature activation/deactivation. No dependence on auto manufacture map updates with planned obsolescence.

    4. Banning competition significantly reduces innovation and tends to raise the price of US made products. It protects the profits of the domestic industry but at the peril of consumers and the environment if one bans electric vehicles.

Competition is the core essential element of capitalism. Clearly, we don’t have capitalism today (so many billionaires prove that) and with further bans we will have significantly less competition tomorrow.

Trash!!! I’m pissed over this protectionist garbage. So not only has Trump managed to create a chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz leading to spiking gasoline, he also killed EV subsidies. Americans deserve free economic access to the EVs made by BYD especially in this dismal Trump Economic Disaster we are living through.

    6. I have yet to see a single adult driving a Chinese vehicle that I’ve encountered. I can’t even remotely name a Chinese brand.

      Art of the deal huh.

“This is 100% just a going-nowhere bill that some fringe crazy wrote to get on Trump’s good side–” aaand it’s co-written by a Republican and a Democrat. Fully bipartisan stupidity

Edit: specifically, it bans them if they have Chinese-developed software in them, which, like… every car is a big computer now, there’s no way BYD is going to contract a US company to write the regenerative braking algorithm. If China demanded the same of Ford and Tesla we’d be calling it industrial espionage

    8. China can just counter and give them six months to revert the bill or force the sale of Tesla Shanghai. Elon will have Trump on the phone within the hour.

It’s all hot air..,they can only “protect” so much…once the average American realizes that these politicians aren’t protecting their constituents’ pocketbooks, these “protections” will go away…basically what happened in the late 70s and 80s regarding Japanese cars…back then, they were “rice burners” but today, 50% of all new car sales are Japanese brands. Interestingly, a significant percentage of those are made in USA…which is funny cuz, yeah, they create jobs but essentially, Americans are working under the yoke of Japanese corporations. I suspect the same will eventually happen with Chinese cars, and those cars will probably be EVs.
