Long story short, I left this university a couple of years ago and never paid the balance i had for some classes. Shortly after, I was notified that if I didn’t pay, I would be sent to a third-party collection company. The last time I checked up on this, the school confirmed that they sent my debt to a collections company, but I was never contacted by said collection company. Now I’m receiving an email from the university itself. I’m questioning if they ever did send me to a third-party collection company or is my debt still held at the shool. What would you do in this situation? Email in question: " Our records indicate that there is an outstanding balance on your student account. To retrieve your student ID and the amount owed, please contact me at (email redacted)
If you have any questions regarding this balance or believe there may be an error, I will assist you by directing you to the relevant department responsible for the charge on your account.
Payments can be made online through our collections portal at: REDACTED, using your student ID. Additionally, we offer payment arrangements if you require an alternative option to paying the balance in full.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter."

Did you not think you had to pay for the classes you took?
Trying to collect money that’s owed is not a “ploy”. You owe the money.
