ADDITIONAL INFO
My wife travel with our kids on a big trip at least once a year and do one or two smaller trips either by ourselves or with the kids. We plan on taking more and longer trips and when the kids move out in the next couple of years plan on staying in multiple countries for a few months a year.

if you need AA; go citi. get the citi strata premier and convert that current citi card you have to a custom cash if they will let you. you can also apply for double cash and convert that to custom cash currently. (you can still get custom cash from product changing existing citi cards; you should try to convert yours)
citi strata premier+double cash+2-4 custom cashes is incredibly powerful except only weakness is no visa for costco; but you can buy shop cards on costco website if you are a loyalist.
you can access skyteam with citi partners to get delta flights too.
maybe get a wells fargo active cash for 2% at costco and keep the autograph to transfer that 2x out to wf partners for no af on the wells side.
Which airline do you plan to use? Do you value being able to transfer direct to said airline? If so then you’d need to look at citi products for American. Amex for Delta. Personally I value Amex for the luxury perks. The Plat has a permanent place in my wallet. I also fly Delta so that makes sense for me.
Amex has Delta as one of their travel partners. Amex Plat with AU added will be good for getting MR points you can redeem for Delta travel.
