Hey!

Im moving across the country soon, and have a fairly low income (im a student), which means a tight budget. Im looking for a card that I can use regularly and for flights so that I can save money when I fly back home. Id like to come back home as much as possible but right now I can only really afford 3 times a year max, and thats pushing it. It would be consistent back and forth between Seattle and Atlanta. Im looking for something that will get me the most miles without being a high-income spender so maybe I can get discounts or even a free flight. Thanks, guys.

Context: I'm 20 years old and a university student (I turn 21 soon), and my credit history is only 2 years, but my credit score is pretty good. I spend like max 2K per month, including rent. I don't have a job right now; I am a student. Hopefully, I can get a job and generate more income when I move; the minimum wage is much higher.

Best card for collecting skymiles? (Student travelling domestic US, multiple times a year (SEA to ATL)).

on that route you might be better off just getting a cash back card honestly skymiles are not great value for domestic economy and with your spend level you wont rack up enough for free flights quick

delta gold is $99 annual fee and you would need to spend like $20k just to get one round trip probably

maybe look at something like the wells fargo autograph or a flat 2% card and just book whatever is cheapest that day delta is not always the best price for SEA-ATL

All Delta credit cards are good at getting you Skymiles. Cards with higher AF give you higher SUB like Delta Plat or Reserve.

Amex also has Delta as their travel partner. You can transfer Amex MR to Delta. Again, higher AF Amex cards like Plat and Gold have higher SUB.

At that spend level you’ll basically not generate enough sky miles to fly back more than 1 time a year round trip honestly. You’d be better off chasing sign up bonuses if you can meet the minimum spend which is unlikely at $1k/month.
