Hi – hope someone can help me understand how the credit system works (I'm not from the US). I keep being pre-approved for credit cards only to have my applications declined after taking a hard inquiry. Most recently got turned down for BofA Customized Cash Rewards and CSP (declined before I got Amex Plat). Trying to work my way up towards Bilt/Citi and would appreciate any tips on getting approvals/increasing credit limits.
- Current cards:
- Amex Gold: Charge Card*,* February 2025
- Amex Platinum: Charge Card, April 2026
- Capital One Savor: $1500 limit, September 2025
- Citibank Diamond: $500 limit, April 2025
- FICO Score: between 719-735
- Oldest account age: 1 year, 5 months
- Income: 400k+
- Utilization (on non-charge cards): 5%
Am I doing something wrong here?

Your credit file is too thin, and your velocity is too high, so there is nothing much you can do besides spacing the credit card applications and aging your file.
