To make a long story short I have a pretty expensive gaming desktop at my halfway house that I live at. I'm technically not renting due to a housing fee – I've talked with the owners of the half way house and a few insurance companies and I apparently do not qualify for renters insurance.
I don't trust some of the guys I live with and my desktop is pretty expensive. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or insight on getting insurance for my desktop.
Valued at 3000 dollars about three years ago if that matters. That's the price I paid for it back then.

You have to be at the halfway house, but the gaming system doesn’t do you know anybody or can anybody have it at their house?
It doesn’t need to be at the halfway house you’re just asking for it ti be taken.
See if any agent will issue a stand alone personal articles policy.
go to the hardware store and buy a keyed doorknob lock/or deadbolt to put on your bedroom door, keep your bedroom door closed and locked 24/7 even when you are home. use you key every time you enter or exit your bedroom. buy one that matches the color/finish of all the other bedroom door knobs in the house so it looks the same at a quick glance.
if you are not allowed to lock your main bedroom door, hopefully you have a bedroom closet that you could keep locked without them noticing.
the Keyed locks only cost around $15, and only take about 5 min to install with just a screwdriver
when you remove the old/current door knob, put it into a ziplock baggie to be saved in the back of the closet, so you can re-installed that original one while you are moving out.
i know people that have lived in half way houses for the last 20 years, their stories are interesting. one very simple Fact between them all seems to be that nothing in your unsecured room is safe, everything you have will be stolen when you are not around if someone knows you have it, finds any value in it, and has access it (the unlocked door).
in addition to keeping it behind a locked door, you might want to place the tower in a back corner (of your room/closet?), keep it turned off & keep a pile of clothes on it completely covering it when you are not home. add what looks like gross socks & poop stained underwear on the top of the pile, you can move that pile and turn the PC on when you want to play, turn it off and cover it back up when you are Not playing.
it may sound excessive but even that might not keep it safe.
the best is to Not have that expensive PC in the half way house, Store it somewhere else safe & get a job and get out of the halfway house as soon as you are financially stable/able to.
