Hard truth: some Amex Centurion Lounges have gotten nasty. 😭

The buffet is the biggest example. Food gets picked through, spills happen, serving areas get messy, and sometimes it just looks unappetizing. 💀
Meanwhile, Capital One lounges seem much more on top of keeping the food stations clean and presentable.
Amex has the luxury branding, but sometimes the buffet is giving Golden Corral at closing time. 😭💀

centurion lounge in dallas last month was pretty bad ngl stuff everywhere and the scrambled eggs look like they been sitting since morning

capital one lounge in dfw was nice tho everything was clean and they actually refilling the food

amex got too popular now everyone and they mom have platinum so lounges just get trashed

    2. amex went downhill the second they stopped demanding you pay the charge card off in full each month.

I cancelled my Platinum because the fee kept going up, yet the Centurion lounge kept getting worse. They make a big deal about their chef-curated menus and whatnot, but overwhelmingly they all serve the same thing: lump of chicken or lump of pork and a carb. Plus they’re so crowded I often found it was more comfortable to buy a sandwich and eat it in peace at an empty gate area in the terminal.

Low key, I think the people that get the best value out of an airline lounge are heavy drinkers.

I’m loyal to Amex because of the card benefits and great customer service.

If you don’t like the lounges, file a complaint. That’s the only way they will listen. Let the lounge check in people know. Amex will fix these issues if they are made known by people. I have filed a complaint with a lounge before, and they sent me a gift card.

I do think increasing the Platinum annual fee to like $1,500 would weed out the overcrowding. Or, they only have the lounges for the Centurion and make membership public. I would pay 10k for the centurion.

    5. Not going to shill for Amex but that’s been their game plan ever since they introduced Pay Over Time for majority of their cards. I remember Amex used to be the de facto luxury travel card but with the coupon book game and hard availability for award bookings, it’s just slowly going downhill.

I feel like their end goal is just to cattle and herd as many people for annual fees and take advantage of people not using said credits.

Literally everyone and their grandmother has an Amex Platinum these days. It’s no longer what it used to be and for some this is a hard pill to swallow.
