Just got my first job out of college! I’ve been an authorized user on my Dads AMEX and am grateful to have built credit this way, but I’m ready to stop stacking travel points for him lol.

    • Current cards: AMEX Hilton, $20,000, 2023, (authorized user)
    • FICO Score: 757
    • Oldest account age: e.g. 5 years 6 months
    • Chase 5/24 status: e.g 2/24
    • Income: $75,000
    • Average monthly spend and categories:
    • dining $300
    • groceries: $216
    • gas: $100
    • travel: $150
    • other: $400
    • Open to Business Cards: No
    • What's the purpose of your next card? :This is partially where I need advice. I want to say travel, as it is a priority for me while young, but I only have 16 days PTO annually. I’m worried it would be more responsible to focus on cash-back or rewards towards shopping or dining.
    • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? I’ve looked into Built for rent but have seen differing opinions and don’t understand the point structure.
    • Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card?: I don’t want to have more than 3 cards maximum.

    Just starting out . . . Kinda

Your expenses don’t look too significant on any one category and given that you don’t currently have a catch all card, I’d prioritize that.

A Travel CC with a high point multiplier may not make sense for you. But if you’re living at home rent-free and want to use your disposable income on traveling, you may want to consider picking up a “coupon book” Travel CC like the Chase Sapphire Reserve which can cover your annual fee & more if you were going to travel anyways, especially if you were pre approved for the 175k offer.
