President Biden on Thursday outlined ways his administration is working to lower U.S. gas prices, including a plan to order the release of up to 1 million barrels of oil per day from the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve. “Our family budgets, your family budgets to fill a tank — none of it should hinge on whether a dictator declares war,” said Mr. Biden as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces continue to attack Ukraine.

Why would anyone deplete the US STRATEGIC OIL RESERVE right before a war with Russia, a major oil producing nation? So if we need fuel for warships and planes, it won't be there.
"STRATEGIC" means you keep it in reserve until an emergency, not just to lower gas prices because you refuse to allow the US to produce it's own gas and oil.
