Oil executive at the hearing said that they will continue to keep production low so prices will be high. Is not about how many oil wells or pipelines that are built, it's the greed of the oil companies.

I used to work in oil and gas purchase contracts. Just take away all the special tax incentives oil companies get if they don't stop gouging. They'll be begging for mercy before the ink is dry.

By the way when oil prices plummeted a couple years ago the overall price of the pump did not drop that much. Therefore there was profiteering then also… And of course Trump said/did nothing.

It is naive to think taht the price of fuel is totally correlated to the price of a barrel of crude. Everything else went up, subsecquentally the final price of gas was meant to go up after addign all costs. Back in the Arab oil embargo when there was an actual shortage that drove up prices the congress enacted a law against windfall profits, it can do it now, but, it'll never pass the GOP and the GOP trolls DEMs allowed in party to cover them when people demand action against the enriching of the rich. Which will never change if DEMs don't mention this or all the other ways gov't is rigged. fyi price of gasoline is dictated by a LAW and this reporter if interesting in reporting would have said so It was begun in the Arab oil embargo to define what could be charged and give corporations generous but not excessive profits. Since it has been gamed, so the price goes up over night but takes months, even a year to see any real decrease. Congress and DEMs especialy could have addersed this, or simply voted no to changes, but didn't at for GOP 90% plus of oil co donations go to them and for DEMs the rich want to get richer, and they are by far the people who end up such excess profits

It's the future buyers of oil and gas contracts that inflates the price. It used to be 10% down payment for contracts. Then when future buyers decide to sell it to someone else, is when they pay the remaining amount.

Congressional hearings are a good way for politicians to get snippets of themselves giving it to oil executives but not a very good way to reveal the cause of higher gasoline prices and come up with solutions.
