From the article: Former Google DeepMind researcher Alex Turner warned that “misaligned” artificial intelligence could prove more dangerous than China’s aggressive development push during a New York City Council meeting on Monday.
“China is not our only potential adversary,” he said. “With reasonably high chance, we are racing to build and grow our own adversary here at home, which is misaligned AI. Misaligned AI is everyone’s adversary, including our own, and one day may be more powerful than China.”
Anthropic whistleblower Jacob Coxon, who raised early concerns about the dire risks of artificial intelligence, called out the industry’s “extremely reckless” approach to development during the meeting.
Coxon previously worked for Open AI and Anthropic has warned that AI labs were “gambling
“On the current path, I think it is more likely than not that humanity loses control to these AIs, and it could end in human extinction,” he told a packed room.
Both Coxon and former OpenAI researcher Daniel Kokotajlo warned of the dangers that the “move fast and break things” culture at the companies poses with such a transformative technology.

Honestly I’d rather just watch terminator than deal with these annoying AI dorks publishing their warning manifestos. That’s all I have to really say so I’m just gonna type stuff till I’m at 140 characters

It’s interesting watching these folks using Bannon’s *flood the zone* tactic to completely overwhelm people and beat them into submission. They’re literally brute forcing the building of the future and world they want via the means of constantly talking about the bringing of their own version of nerd Armageddon.

Since this is Economics, follow the money. What is the financial incentive to scaring the public into thinking AI is the new bogie-man. There are several components – the big one: “regulatory capture”.

During an interview with Politico‘s new podcast Decoded, sam Almzan laid it all out: that the “world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency.” In other words who cares about the future of humanity when he can make a buck.
