Hello everyone. I’m wondering if it’s even worth reporting to our insurance on the damages to my car. I’m worried things might be a bit tricky considering my car is imported but here’s the rundown:
Yesterday, my dad came home from a hunting trip and did not tell me or my mom that he was him coming home. As he’s trying to back up into his parking spot in our driveway, he rams his bike rack that was attached to our camper on his truck into the back side of my car. The damage is pretty significant on the rear quarter panel of my car, and I’m estimating the cost to repair would be around $3000-$5000.
We are both on the same insurance policy, so I’m going with the assumption that if I file it would go under my comprehension policy. My only worry is because it’s an imported vehicle, I don’t know what my insurance would say my car’s value is worth, and if they think that the damages are going to be more than the price of the car and consider my car totaled.
Should I go through with filing with my insurance, or should I find a body shop and get repairs out of pocket?
How should I go about doing this? State Farm Home/Auto

It would be under your collision coverage, if you went through insurance. You are welcome to have a shop look at it first.
