“A massive container ship stuck sideways in Egypt’s Suez Canal has been blocking one of the world’s busiest waterways for over 24 hours, disrupting global trade and launching a tidal wave of memes on social media.

On Tuesday morning local time, the Ever Given, a 1,312-foot-long container ship capable of carrying more than 220,000 tons, was traveling from China to the Netherlands through the canal when Egyptian authorities say a dust storm brought low visibility and heavy winds that caused the ship to run aground.”

    1. Wasde is one of those social commentators that has a dynamic happiness in his voice. But to achieve this, it truly has to be sincere because genpop like me are very cynical. But I can hear his smile, his laughter is just bubbly. And of course both he and John are happy to report on something that’s not tragic or devastating planetary conditions and this ship is getting all kindsa attention from the news now. I just have to say that in case Wasde looks at the comments, that to be a co pilot for John that his contribution, made others smile.

    2. I saw some better pictures, the bow is really stuck in some muck, they've dumped all their ballast to lighten the ship as much as possible, and backhoes are digging it out. Hopefully they'll get it refloated soon.

    3. 5 minutes before I saw this video I was googling "Evergreen Marine" to see how many ships they operate (150) because I was thinking…"I would hate to be that guy!"

    4. Apparently, the Vox reporter who is quoted in this video is ignorant of the relation and differences between "China" and "Taiwan."

    5. To all the dinghy captains below. The ship is called the EVER GIVEN as is properly displayed on the stern of the ship and both sides of the bow. It says EVERGREEN on the side because it's operator is surprisingly called the EVERGREEN Marine Corporation. Amazing isn't it?

    6. On the satellite view of the canal on googlemaps you can see the enormity of some of these cargo ships and how what happened was just a matter of time. The canal was opened in 1869.

    7. Have one of those fire fighting airplanes precision drop a slam of water to the beached side. Like… 10 in quick succession.might take multiple sorties…

    8. I read an article, were a shipping and containership expert, said that he had never seen a ship like that, loaded that heavy. It sits too tall in the water.

    9. Trump knew the solution: You have to flush 10 to 15 times to dislodge it. 😁

So all it took to grind a large chunk of global shipping to a halt was a stuck cargo ship in a tight spot.

    10. Suez canal blocked.
Petrol prices will go up in a period where they sell less.
      How convenient !
However, as Napoleon Bonaparte once said :
"Never ascribe to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence."

    11. It's not people, they're Egyptians who dies, they were not prisoners, they were Egyptian peasants who forcibly taken from their families against their will to dig the Suez canal with their bare hands.

    12. "Hate to be that Guy" Well a ship gives up all navigation authority to the Egyptian Suez pilots that take control of the helm during canal transits. So there is really ONE person completely responsible and, unless they are the son of someone "important" in Egypt, might be looking for new employment if they are not already.

    13. Maybe just maybe we shouldn't have ships this big do we not remember the titanic and britanic.

Also glad I'm not the only one who saw that and thought Austin powers

    14. 3:12 so, are all those ships that are going to be waiting there for a week plus going to have their lock fees refunded for this passage? It would only seem fair

    15. Lol. Look up “USA vs The World”

This is partially why blocking this path is so effective. No oil tankers will be getting through if blockaded, if you attack a shipping vessel there, it will be blocked for weeks even without a blockade. Months with the occasional drone strike.

    16. This incident is proof that nobody has anything figured out. The world just moves at the speed of light and people figure shit out on the fly. Most of the time it works this time definitely not
