Cost of living: Gas prices are low, but we have record high bills – Sky News explains why

Rising bills have meant one in four people have resorted to skipping meals, according to a survey of more than 2,000 Britons.

But currently gas prices are lower then they have been in over a year. What is going on? Why are everyone’s energy bills still so high?

Sky News’ Data Editor Ed Conway explains.

  1. The West has a bad reputation and no credibility at all, when it comes to promises, to help their so-called friends, or to help the countries on which they imposed a color revolution. A good example is Afghanistan, they waged war for 30 years, fighting the Taliban, but on the other hand, they helped the Taliban and led “good “ people like Ashraf Ghani, to flee the country, because the US themselves lost and fled. But there are many other examples, the Kurds for instance; the US led them to be killed by DAESH in Syria and Iraq. Or the Shia majority in Iraq, George Bush Sr. Promised to protect them from the forces of Saddam Hussein, after the Gulf war, but they were brutally murdered.

They also betray their longest allies, countries like Germany (Nord stream II) Turkey, France and Saudi Arabia. One can ask why? Partly because the US and EU have had for many years a “hard-core” capitalistic system, in contrast to China and Russia, where the government stands above capitalism. This Western model of capitalism doesn’t care about people, only about money and profit. But this system is bankrupt and the West is eagerly trying to create a new model, a technocratic, transhuman system, which is doomed to fail, people in Europe don’t want a system like that. It’s also the end of Western mankind.

  2. The price rises are deliberate to destroy the economy and put people into poverty . The people riot , the govt collapses and hands power over to Klaus Schwab's World Economic Forum who are Boris , Sunak, javid and Liz truss s real bosses as they are call part of world economic forum s young global leaders program . Then it's one world govt tyranny . Boris and co are traitors who have sold the country down the river .

  3. They don't have a replacement they are still getting their gas from Russia. Even idiot countries like Poland which say they won't buy Russian gas and they'll buy from another country instead are buying gas that Russia sold to Germany then Germany sells to Poland so it's still Russian gas they just want it more expensive for no reason. LNG isn't relevant because we are still using Russian gas we aren't primarily using LNG. So there is no reason why the price has gone up other than speculation on a bad future as the man said. In which case it would have been better to not say anything about stopping using Russian gas, get everything to switch away from it in place first, then immediately switch so there wont be the problem we now have: years of speculation of a bad future whilst the infrastructure to switch away from Russian gas is not yet complete. Idiots. Pumped the market on purpose it seems.

  6. COMMON SENSE The poor & the vulnrable claim universal credit this is where help needs to be applied reducing prices on petrol and diesal is no use to a person on universal credit who does not own a car, reducing national insurance is no help a windfall tax is no help.

  7. Futures markets ,the term makes me laugh basing a strategy of the glass half empty is based around schizoid thinking but operate in a narcissistic fashion by explaining there schizoid concerns but trying to fool the public

  8. Here's a policy that would level up straight away but u wouldnt see no goverenmemt demand it. It costs way more than a windfall. If people have debts with their gas and electric and can't pay it then the energy company should pay that debt. I know why they haven't done it because they will lose all their easily earned profits. They won't do a windfall cos that reduces profits also. They have no choice but to do one of the two options.
