  1. I read an interesting article about how people who are super stressed out struggle with starting new shows to binge, that they would rather binge a show they've already seen because they know how it ends. I think the same can be said for video games. It's less of a mental investment with a game that you are more familiar with, rather than a newer game. Not to mention that new games are normally full price, and I'm still waiting for Elden Ring to go on sale before I buy it. If you are struggling to pay rent or can't afford your own house, then you probably aren't chomping at the bit for a new video game. But if you have some time to kill, you would likely take solace in a fun little game of minecraft or WoW because you are familiar with it. Maybe these old games give people a sense of nostalgia, and it's still fun to play, so why bother with new games? Just my thoughts on the situation. If you read all this, I hope you have a wonderful day and may you pillows always be cold

  2. I'm fairly sure the sudden interest in MGRR is because of the Max0r video that came out in December 2021. He made a two part video basically retelling the story of MGRR in the most over the top and hilarious way and seeing how those videos have millions of views, I think it's fair to say that those videos likely had a big impact on the sudden rise in interest.
I guess you could say it's the game's… Revengeance >w>

  3. Honestly over the last few years games have either been buggy, unfinished, lacking in content, greedy, while most older games generally don't have those problems and they benefited from support either from the devs(patches,DLC etc) or community (mods, forums) also I have over dozen or so games I haven't finished yet so the shiny new stuff has be top quality to warrant a purchase

  4. That IGN article looks a bit sus. What were the most played games in 2021? In 2020? 2019? And that shot at Elden Ring hints at some sour grapes.

Looked it up, it's a freaking survey of 8000 people who were asked what games they remember playing recently. It's utter garbage. I wouldn't be surprised if each game in the top 10 had significantly fewer numbers than you would expect of a top 10.

  5. From someone who also played metal gear rising when it first came out, seeing all of these people playing it and finally seeing how amazing it is brings a tear to my eye.

  6. The biggest reason why I go back and play old games… is mostly because the quality control is so low, that I don't really feel like I can trust big expensive games. It usually seem wiser to just wait. Partially because I might catch a sale, but also because I can check if the game ended up feeling finished and polished

  7. I have seen a LOT of twenty to thirty year old streamers playing the game for the first time in last month, first for the memes but then because they actually GOT what the game was trying to do and enjoying it. It is more fun that all of the "real is brown" games from the same era.

  8. This year I've bought Forbidden West and Elden Ring, both I played for a bit then set aside and I've gone to play some older games instead. All of the games on that list have high replay value which are the type of games I've also been playing. There hasn't been any releases to my knowledge lately that have a continuous play style where you can just pick it up and go. A case could be made for Elden Ring but not everyone has it in them to do multiple play throughs of it.

  9. Max0r released part 1 of his MGR:R video in Dec 2021 and part 2 in January 2022. I'm not saying a sentient video editing software with a youtube channel is responsible for the rise in players, but I'm not saying he's NOT responsible.

  10. I'm glad Revengeance is getting a renaissance. I'm not sure if I'd call it my FAVORITE game, but goddamn if it isn't a fun time from start to finish!

  11. Always weird seeing games you thought were amazing getting popular years after their release. I thought everyone had already played metal gear rising revengeance but apparently not
