  1. Trade unions killed the mining industry, it started with that strike that went on over a month that ended in marikana. They should trial union bosses who intimidate workers as terrorists or traitors because this is the effect of their 'work' due to their GREED to fatten up payrolls for them to harvest at the expense of people's jobs and the economy.

  2. Having been involved in the mining industry. ANC government is the sole to blame, the lack of electricity to run a mine because of ANC. The High cost of Labour because of Unions backed by Government. Lack of railway infrastructure which is governed by government. Eventually it is Government to blame. The event at Marikana was a turning point in Mining in South Afria after then an unprofitable industry became even more unprofitable. Since then Mining companies have left South Africa. The only way to look at Mining in south Africa in the future will be less unskilled labour and more mecagnisim.

  3. The hunt for the Goose that lays the Golden Egg…and then after they have caught it finding out that they have to feed the Goose to keep on producing the Golden Egg….Who wants to feed the Goose ?

  4. Failing to fill the pipeline for the future is a recurring theme. It is exactly the same as what is killing Eskom. Instead of building for the future, corrupt people are grabbing what they can now.

Many people think that the main thing in mining are the minerals in the ground. Sure you need those, but a far more limited resource is the pool of skilled people, managers and mining engineers to develop the mines. Like all other experienced people they are leaving and taking their valuable skills to countries where they are appreciated.
And they won't be coming back.

  5. OK but also people don't wanna die from mining pollution. We're poisoning ourselves and the earth and the least we can do is cut WASTE and recycle our resources instead of mining more. YOU have to make do with less or its goodbye humans.

  6. ANC killed mining. Their apartheid era system of categorising people based on race creates an environment where people with merit and qualifications are discounted to fulfilling a race quota.

  7. It is the useless ANC who have ruined not only the mining industry but also the whole manufacturing industry. This is because they just do not know how to manage anything. Just bloody useless.

  8. Mining is alive and well in SA , it just isn't formalized anymore as we are used to having it , The zama zamas are mining 24/7 Spend a night in Benoni and listen out for the blasting that continues in the small hours of the morning.

  9. What about illegal mining activities, with not much done about that, posing extreme risk of all kinds to communities and property above ground. It is no coincidence that our democracy was never founded to last. Everything has been structured to implode purposely, now that's a thought to ponder … the oligarchs who fund (pulling puppet strings) our government … after stealing our riches and stashing them neatly away, hoping noone will figure out what they have done. Their dirty fingerprints are coincidentally on all the demise.

  10. Long story short: The parasitic parastatals in charge dont give a mangrils laugh about the importance of beneficial ruling for the economy of this once striving country. Their incompetence and corruption attitude is the main name of their game.

  11. All of the precious metal miners are high grading the mines…. They are doing this to maximize the profits as a result of the commodity price boom…. They are using the proceeds (in addition to paying the massive taxes that the ANC is so proud of and are keeping the country "afloat') to invest in exploration and well as mergers and acquisitions OUTSIDE of South Africa….
The nett result of this will be that WHEN not IF the commodity cycle turns and prices fall, the mines will close down…. So that is what the criminals in government do not understand…the taxes and royalties will not reduce…it will STOP…. and in addition hundreds of thousands of people will be out of employment and with NO skills that can be used in any other industry (not that there will be industry given that there will never again be enough power)
Get out while you can…. BBBEE afraid….BBBEE very, very afraid….

  12. True as stated in the program.
The quality, discipline and skills of the workforce in general may be regarded as a potential problem.
The safety enviroment and the DMR seem to be not a well coordinated success.
In short – mining for the mining people.
