The Suez Canal is one of the most important naval passageways in the world. Despite being located in Egypt, for the first 9 decades of its existence, it was owned and controlled by the British and the French. The anti-imperialist sentiment within the country culminated in Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which saw the Arab nationalist Free Officers Movement take power. Shortly after, the charismatic Gamal Abdel Nasser rose to the forefront to lead Egypt on a radically different trajectory than they had been under the deposed Muhammad Ali monarchy. In 1956, Nasser would make the most important decision of his career when he nationalised the foreign-owned Suez Canal; his power and the legacy he would subsequently carve out for himself all hung in the balance as the British and French colluded with Israel to bring him down.

    1. He showed us Egyptians Arabs and Africans that we can stand up to the west after centuries of Western countries humiliating us. This is by no means promoting hating western countries times changed and mutual respect between us prevails.

    2. Hi Hikma History,
An amazing video as always! I was wondering if it would possible for you to produce a video on Afghanistan's King Amanullah Khan similar to the videos you made on King Zahir Shah and Ahmad Shah Durrani. Although King Amanullah's reign was a consequential era in modern Afghan history, it is hard to find videos on his life and reign. So, it would be interesting to see you producing a video on this subject.
