Germany, Austria hit out at European Commission’s plan to label nuclear energy, gas investments as green

EU집행위 ‘원자력 녹색투자 분류 초안’에 독일•오스트리아 반발

Germany has criticized the European Commission’s plans to include nuclear energy and natural gas in its long-awaited green labeling system for investment in the energy sector.
Germany’s ministers of economy and climate protection as well as environment slammed the initiative,… saying Berlin cannot back the proposal.
The draft,… which was sent to EU countries last Friday,… says nuclear plants should be considered “sustainable” if the host country can ensure they cause no significant harm to the environment.
Austria and Luxembourg also oppose the move.

  1. Russia currently supplies most of Europe's natural gas. But Russian natural gas (aka "dirty gas") contains much more methane (CH4) than most other parts of the world (than the US and middle-east, for example). And methane causes about 25x more green house effect than the same amount of CO2. No wonder Germany and Austria are so concerned about it's use.
