It’s been a challenging first half to the year for stock market and cryptocurrency investors. The stock market is down 24% YTD and the two top cryptocurrencies; Bitcoin (down 64%) and Ethereum (down nearly 80%) are also struggling too. So what’s next? Will financial markets more broadly recover? Will we see the stock market recover but perhaps not the crypto market? Well, lets discuss…
01:35 Why Everything Is Crashing
The characteristics of an asset class is what makes it prone to volatility during different macroeconomic conditions. For both bitcoin and stocks, they’re considered risk assets, and therefore, when there is a “risk off” sentiment amongst investors, driven by the macroeconomic environment, i.e. higher inflation and rising interest rates, these asset classes typically fall down in value.
05:25 How Big Will The Crash Be?
It’s a little bit of a best guess when it comes to predicting market crashes, because nobody truly knows what the outcome will be. However, we can make some assumptions based on historical data to somewhat predict where the price of an asset can go. Like Bitcoin as an example, which is prone to crashes upwards of 80% during its bear market cycles, which if this were to be the case we may see Bitcoin bottom out at roughly $10,000 per coin.

It’s actually pretty straightforward to put together a market thesis for ideal conditions that would result in global markets moving higher, and yes this includes cryptocurrency too! I’ll share the criteria that i’m personally looking out for, as this will be the best indication that a market recovery could be quickly on the horizon.
