I can only assume seemingly intelligent people must be so afraid of reality, they construct conspiratorial counter narratives to support their predetermined conclusions. Why not assume the obvious, that extreme heat causes fires and puts animals under debilitating stress? Why question the need to end animal agriculture as anything but a statement of fact? Why would ‘weather modification’ but not climate change explain extremes? Why would we assume malicious actors or incentives at all, when everything is explainable by known processes? If we really want to speculate on third party motives, why not right-wing extremists who delusionally assert they won an election they did not, and have vowed to do everything possible to undermine the actual winner, including incorrectly attributing rising prices to the current administration? Why wouldn’t we speculatively ponder the motive and value in trying to cause an increase in food inflation to support their narrative? The answer to most conspiracy theories is instead of accepting hard truths that your way of life is unsustainable, and taking responsibility, you can continue to benefit yourself, and avoid the anxiety it causes by blaming someone else who accepts difficult truths. It is a defence mechanism called reaction formation.
