It’s still unclear if Russia will restart the crucial flow of gas into Europe as a brief outage for annual maintenance on the critical Nord Stream 1 pipeline continues.
The pipeline, which accounts for more than a third of Russian natural gas exports to the European Union, was halted for 10 days of maintenance on July 11.
The European Commission is planning for all scenarios regarding gas flows to Europe through the pipeline, including the possibility that deliveries do not restart when the maintenance is due to end.
As Abigail Bimman reports, it’s raising concerns over whether Canada and other Western nations will ease pressure on Russia over its war on Ukraine.

Gas to Europe via Gazprom Nord Stream 1 began to flow at 4 am this morning. It will reach 40-50% by mid-day. It will take up to a week to install the turbine Canada sent to Germany on July 17, 2022. For some odd reason it needs to be certified by Germany before being sent to Gazprom. That's what happens in western media when you make assumptions rather than news.
The fact that Russia has still been providing countries gas who are actively trying to destroy it, shows how calm and fair they are trying to be.
Europe is shooting itself in the face with these sanctions and it's the old, the young, the working class and the sick who will pay the price. Many will die this winter.
