BP triples profits after spike in oil and gas prices

BP today said its profits have more than trebled thanks to surging energy prices.

But those same surging prices are set to push domestic energy bills to more than £3,600 per household this winter.

Poverty campaigners say the dramatic increase in the energy price cap – due to take effect in less than two months – means the government must urgently boost the cash support they are giving to consumers.

  1. Wind and solar are godsends for the oil biz. They can virtue-signal with their ESG scores and support it but they know they're unreliable and that the backup will be fossil

  2. Absolutely disgusting. Tories are a disgrace for allowing the energy companies significant tax breaks and asking the poorest of our society to pay for higher and higher prices. Energy companies will keep increasing the price as the government which is meant to be there to prevent predatory capitalism welcomes inequality and suffering for those they deem not worthy, not working hard enough.

  3. If they're making such astonishing profits they can afford to invest in infrastructure AND slash their selling price and still pay the shareholders handsomely. These figures are staggering, there's no excuse except greed. Onces this fuel is then sold to the energy suppliers who in England are also making staggering profits the situation for the consumer is simply untenable.

  4. 'They went and helped themselves'. Really? Why are prices going up so much if BP help themselves and isn't just passing the buck to the consumer?

  5. Why you dumb news continue to blame the price rises on BP ? You need to wake up and blame the central banks and your own governments for causing the inflation of the money supply…and politicians keep trying to deceive you

  6. Er, you seem to forget the green levy on everyone's bill's to fund big business wind turbines! Either way the British public are being screwed over my this dispicable government!

  7. What i can't understand. Are the powers that be, trying to force a revolution? It's like we're being goaded into civil unrest. I'm sharpening my pitch-fork.

  8. It's not like they're making oil, they're just extracting it. It's utterly immoral. Politicians caused this crisis with global lockdowns and net zero policies, so they should cap prices of domestic energy resources. Don't tax, cap prices until the market returns to normal.

  9. Didn't Corbyn talk about nationalising the trains and energy sector?
But he was undermined by Kier who lied his way into power, just like how he lied about supporting the miner strike ( when he wasn't even a qualified lawyer)!
