In the EU, energy costs are spiraling to record levels. Supplies from Russia are dwindling after the bloc’s tough stance against Moscow over its attack on Ukraine. And domestic energy sources, like nuclear power and hydroelectric plants are struggling to raise their output, because of a severe drought in the region. European governments are setting aside funds to subsidize domestic and commercial consumers. Meanwhile, the UK plans to dole out cash handouts to shield its most vulnerable consumers from energy price hikes.

For more on this, we spoke to Neil Atkinson in Paris and Taha Arvas in Istanbul.

    1. EU:
"We will crush you with our mighty sanctions and isolate you!"

      Russia:
"Let me help you, I will shut the oil and gas supply, that way I won't receive any more of your money."

EU: **in a whiny childish voice**
"Stop it! You are being mean. You are hurting our economies by 'weaponizing' oil and gas, you evil country. Why can't you just stand there like a punching bag and let me hit you? Don't you know we're morally superior than you?"

US: "fear not EU! We can supply you with way less oil and gas for three to four times the cost as Russia (at full market price, of course cause subsidies are for pinko communists…).

Russia: **drinking a hot cup of tea**

    2. EU thinks that by not talking about it their citizens won't freeze come winter. Great times for regime changes in EU or their complete collapse, especially Germany and Austria. I can't wait to see those two fall to their knees 😁😁.
