Hi Rob – solar panels are great. On average each month my panels create more electric power in month than I need and I even charge an electric car as well which is more than half of my usage. But keep in mind if you are concerned with blackouts you need batteries and invertor that will automatically shut your system off the grid when the brown outs occur. If you just have color panels and the power goes out so will your power. The reason is you can be generating power from your solar panels when the system is out. If someone is working on the grid it could cause issues. So Solar panels won't work and provide energy during brown outs unless you have batteries and the ability to automatically cut off from the grid. Tesla solar panels and batteries have a great system. Highly recommend.
Hi Rob we're here in NZ we are off grid. Have 18 solar panels and 24, 2v batteries. It's brilliant, it runs out house tvs, 4 chest freezer, fridges, computers. We have a generator for back up mainly use in winter. Key to it is to get a good size setup.

I am a Roofing Contractor in Northern Wisconsin and my insurance just recently increased by $96.00 p/ month. Storage units increased by $10 and my favorite coffee shop jacked the Americano's a whole buck p/cup. Our materials are measured by the square and that has increased by almost $100 p/sq, which equates to a 30 sq roof that was going for $16k just went up to $19k for materials only. Every tool has increased and Labor has went from $15p/hour apprentice to $18. We are a small community and volume is not really a option so business has become less profitable this year. Thank goodness for cheap silver and BTC. Thanks for the show Rob!!
