Russia says it is closing the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, piling more pressure on Europe’s energy supplies.
State energy firm Gazprom said it had found a leak at a turbine station and the pipeline would need to be shut down indefinitely.
Europe has accused Moscow of using oil as an economic weapon against Western countries that are supporting Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia
The EU is facing a winter of high energy prices as Russia restricts supplies into the continent.

Russia really just shot themselves in their own foot. Europe is now forced to not depend on Russian gas, meaning that Russia just lost a huge buyer for one of their largest exports. All that gas and no one to sell it to, all that lost revenue.
What did we expect? I'm surprised any gas flowed at all after the way we acted in Ukr@ine!! 😖
Astonishing! The west weaponised global finance trying to wreck the Russian economy in response to its invasion of Ukraine (which the west provoked (see the Rand Corporation 2019 paper 'Extending Russia' and Prof. Mearsheimer's lecture 'The Causes and Consequences of the Ukrain War (Youtube)). It then tries to cap the cost of oil to furrther damage Russia and then whines when Russia retaliates by closing down the gas it provides. What did they think would happen? Western leaders appear to have the geo-political nouse of 5 year olds. They played with matches and have got burnt.
In a world where I constantly hear about diversity, inclusion and unity all I keep seeing is more division.
putin just wants to help the Americans gain a larger market share in Europe. LNG has become the fastest growing US export this year. How nice of putin to step aside and let the americans make some money 🙂
Remember when putin said anyone who interfered with the invasion of Ukraine would face terrible consequences? Pepperidge farm remembers..
Europe master usa will export energy to its slaves 👍👍👍😂😂
The big problem here is that Europeans think they are the world, It's like going on a hunger strike in a place where there are a lot of hungry people, Energy is in full demand in the world.
the russian g d p 1.43 trillion .in national terms a punk.
🥶 🥶 🥶 🇩🇪 🇵🇱
I believe I can fly… I believe I can touch the sky, putin throws people from windows all night and day.. spread my wings and fly awaaay….. 💀
a compressor decided to jump out of a windows.
Live: Turkey can mediate Russia-Ukraine nuclear plant standoff, Erdogan says
So does that meant the UK bills go over £6,000 in January, EVEN though we have the SMALLEST amount from Russia.
Good for them and he should do more
Russia has every right to retaliate against western sanctions…. what did western nations think was going to happen?🙄
Winter is coming! And we be paying 😀
I'm hoping for a cold winter.
i would have cut gas first thing if i were Putin and see how the hypocritical west like sanctions OH i forgot when Russia does it called blackmail
Anyone who thinks 'Russia turns off gas' is even news hasn't been paying attention. Within a couple of years this will be history, about how Europe (Germany) broke free from Russian energy blackmail and focused on demolishing the Russian military machine in Ukraine. This winter's energy prices + the cost of Ukrainian victory are a price worth paying for another 30 years of freedom from russian expansionist ambitions.
Should Europe still allow Russia to transport liquified gas and other goods through the Danish Straights? How can we be sure all ships are safe before thoroughly checking each one for a month?
@Gary when i am reading west bot comments they are repeating themselves multiple times, in addition to repeating main stream media and propaganda platforms. Poisoned by propaganda, us/ukr troll
Sanctions didn't work against Russia. The Roubel has never done as well as it has now 😄🤣 Europe must keep out of this conflict. Typical NATO and UN screwing everything up as they always do . . .
So yeah totally cool to fk them up but doing opposite isn't nice right?
Good. I'm glad he's played his hand early. Means he's getting desperate. He absolutely HAS to get on top of this conflict in the next six months or he's screwed, politically.
It's been done on purpose
Don't worry about Russia, they will sell their gas to China and the Europe is going to buy it at a higher price just like it has been going since the imposed sanctions.
