Vladimir Putin announced in a speech last month that Russia had weathered the worst of the Economic sanctions imposed by Western nations. He said that “gloomy predictions about the Russian economy’s future didn’t come true” and that the sanctions had hit foreign economies much harder than they had hit Russia. He added that “The weaponry of sanctions is a double-edged sword… and European countries had dealt a serious blow to their own economies all on their own.” So are the sanctions on Russia working? Or Is Russia winning the Economic War?

"About 1000 western companies, accounting for almost 40% of russian GDP …"
That percentage sounds much too high, somebody can elaborate please ?
Nevertheless Mr. Boyle, love your high quality content and dry humour. You are a refreshing contrast being a voice of reason to the tidal wave of hot garbage of economic "news" which is flooding mainstream.

    3. in 2012 lucoil didn't get the contract for the Skifka oil and gas field.
it went to exxon mobil and royal dutch shell.
with a new pipe line planed to the EU.
Russia would have lost its grip over the energy market.
two years later Cremia fell, no coincidence n my eyes.

    4. Something that wasn't mentioned was the reliance of Russian military production on Europe – and on Ukraine. Once Thales stopped sending thermal sights, Motor Sich stopped sending helicopter parts and Bosch stopped sending drive units, once the stockpiles were used up Russia stopped being able to build new tanks, helicopters and so on.

Now, this might sound incredible, but you'd expect Russian state media to be showing propaganda about their new production … and they simply aren't.

In other evidence, the equipment seen at the front, even in the hands of elite units, is overwhelmingly old.

The Chinese refusal to supply the parts and equipment on can also be seen in the absolute lack of new Chinese-built trucks, and new Chinese-built drones, in the Russian army.

It isn't just the Russian civilian economy that has been crippled by sanctions, it's also their military economy.

    5. Russian soon to be destressd assets look pretty attractive to me ,raw can materials never go to 0 ,the bond markets look good big $ to be made for the ones who have the stomach for it,

    6. Wars are won not by a military might but by one’s ability to endure pain. Russia can bear much more pain that the West. That’s why I am skeptical of Western success in economic war with Russia.

    7. War is ultimate test of endurance. Given recent victories of Ukraine, it is still up to debate who will be the winner. However winter is coming. We shall see whose side the god is on soon.

    8. Good point, poor analogy ~ 'Potemkin villages' were a completely fabricated vicious, jealous aristocratic, smear campaign after his death to discredit his political legacy.

    9. I think you put too much weight on oligarchs losing their money. That's not a bad thing for Putin, they're less of a threat to him now. As for lying about economic, oh boy, do I have a country to tell you about …

    10. Where was your conscience at when countries like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan were invaded by US and millions died of horrific deaths, or countries like Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea got sanctioned by US and people’s lives suffered? How are you gonna convince us that you actually have any morals when you only mention Russia when we all know the invasion on Ukraine was a result of Zelenskyy playing a supporting role in NATO’s expansion?

    11. MAKE MONEY WHILE YOU ARE SLEEPING! AS YOU SLEPT LAST NIGHT, YOUR RENTS ARE RUNNING. YOUR ELECTRIC BILL WAS RUNNING. YOUR DATA WAS RUNNING. NONE OF YOUR BILLS SLEPT. THEY KEPT ON BILLINGS AS YOU WERE SLEEPING. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU WOKE UP OWING MORE THAN YOU DID BEFORE SLEEPING. THAT'S WHY YOU NEED 'PASSIVE INCOME'. SO WHEN YOU SLEEP, YOU CAN ALSO MAKE MONEY, NOT JUST DEBTS.

    12. The most naive position I've heard, is people suggesting that removing sanctions will automagically stop inflation or even bring prices back to what they were before the war

    13. Ukraine is beyond lucky that the Russians have IQs closer to 0 rather than 100…even with a vastly larger military at the onset of war, they failed in such an embarrassing manner…what was once known as the 2nd best army is now probably around 25?

    14. Russians are rolling in money from the price of oil, gas and other commodities they exported to EU,US now in less quantity but higher prices. They are turning the trade away from the West and towards the East! Russia selling more oil and gas to China India Turkey and other countries since the sanctions were imposed on them. At discount prices to friendly countries and still making a huge profit since the prices went up considerably for gas and oil. The war was not unplanned it was prepared for the past 8 years by Russia since they had Nato moving closer and closer to their borders. Crossing the red line! Diplomacy did not work. The Collective West wants to break Russia economically! They wanted a war but misjudged the strength of Russia. Russia now trading with countries in their own currencies and the Ruble, why the Ruble is so strong. The Dollar, Euro is losing its value as there is less demand for those countries not having to use the dollar to trade with Russia. The only danger Russia has is the Ruble might get too high in value and they have to control this from happening so their commodities are not priced out of the market, why they have lowered their taxes on their people since the war started. There are no shortages in their shops, the empty shops Western boutiques have fled back home due to imposed sanctions. People need to wake up in the Collective West for what is coming this Winter. The spin by the Western powers is painting a rosie picture of winning the war. They are pinning all their hopes on Ukraine winning the war, while telling their people to suffer the high gas prices to fund the war. Nato want send troops into this Ukranian proxi war since its not a Nato country, instead they are arming the Ukranians to fight to the last Ukranian standing. The propaganda is well and truly working overtime on MSM, internet and the spin doctors apparatus is spinning disinformation to keep the people ignorant of what these f**k wits have done in Brussels, UK and US, to the people of their countries. Destroying their economies. Need to understand Russians still know how to prepare for Winter they still grow their food on their Dashes and they want be cold this Winter.

    15. It's always "Putin's war"…how about "NATO's war" as a more accurate description? For all the detailed economic and final detail, I would have hoped you would have attended to the historical importance of what has transpired.

    16. The communists apparatchiks used the Gregory Pitomkin method. They knew the Communists big wigs could only see up to the first floor in their cars if they drove through a village. So the local leaders would just have the first floor facades of buildings painted and steal the rest of the paint to paint their houses.

    17. Few people realize that Ukraine is just the first step towards Russia and Chinas long term aim of dealing a death blow to globalization, the climate change con men, and the political criminal cartels who are ruling us by dictate and inflating us into abject poverty. And as we are presently experiencing, the globalist elite are equally intent on dealing their own death blow on us in order to destroy the economy and our lives. If you doubt that? take a look at your bills and your bank balance, then your depleted life style and the future prospects for and you and yours, and you’ll see exactly what I mean and who your real enemies are the deep state and their MSM agents provocateurs.

    18. I am in Russia and do not see any crisis here. Prices are stable, business activity is good. People support military operation, but urge Kremlin to act more decisive to crash the enemy sooner than later while do not pay much attention to what is going on in the south west outskirts of the country. I would even say that this military operation is a joke in comparison to all the COVID restrictions.
I may understand Mr.Boyle difficulties to figure out what is going on without any access to reliable information in war time. However, I would dare to ask a simple question. Why bother spreading unreliable information on topic far from the scope of your practical knowledge? There are so many useful and interesting topics elsewhere within Mr.Boyle scope of experience and competence

    19. If I get time, I'll look at the study from Yale. However, I'm guessing the data cited in the report has roots in the CIA and other 3 letter agencies. How trustworthy are they?

    20. If you want a true value of the Rouble look at the black market value. When I visited the soviet block in the 80's the black market value of currency was much lower than the official exchange rate.

    21. Great video, but Patrick starts off by mentioning the morality of this war and how ppl are viewing the sanctions…I'm not russian, but I cant help to think that Putin will do what he does no matter the sanctions, and the ppl that are truly suffering from the sanctions are (mostly) innocent russians. Given that point of view, how good are these sanctions? What is the true meaning of them? Given that Putin as we speak seems to have no intent of stopping his invasion, but both EU and russian civilians are suffering as a consequence of the sanctions. Are they "successful" ?

    22. Great video. Russia is definitely hurt by the sanctions but so is the EU, UN, G7, US, UK, AU, etc. but different degrees/dimensions. However since Russia is Not like Iran, Cuba, NKorea, Venezuela, etc. has vast resources+weapons & remains a key member of UN, there are many others they can explore. Also Sanctions are not exactly like a Blockade/Siege so it's effectiveness is mixed. Yet while the strategy of starving a wolf or bear to submission may prove effective, starving a demon or dragon to submission can be disastrous. Already there are signs the trade war is turning into cold/dark war & it doesn't look great when the Doomsday clock remains closer to doomsday than height of cold war.
