More than one million households in the Netherlands are struggling to pay energy bills that have doubled or tripled in recent months.
Increasingly, people have decided to cut themselves off from gas, even though winter is coming.

  1. I live in Scotland and it’s a lot colder than Holland and I haven’t turned my gas on since April
I shower at the gym and get my thermals on at night
Just reminds me of growing up in the 70,s

  2. Don’t you worry: when winter comes here we will be burning beautiful homes that belong to our inept corrupt dutch politicians to keep us warm.
That’s why we have the highest prices in the World.
My energy bill quadrupled, so I will just start to rob politicians of that big corporate money that that they get for selling us out to big business if this continues.

  3. Europe did not prepare for this, and relied on cheap gas from Russia. It is not a complex issue. European politicans and planners are reponsible for this.

  4. The Dutch are an amazing people but unfortunately the old candle in the terracotta trick won't work in winter. If only there was a way to convert "european values" into heat. And the new insect protein can be grown in the empty greenhouses. Delicious.

  5. I saw a research paper out of Africa, he linked ten five gallon buckets of dirt and got +/- 10 volts of electricity (that's 24/7 power production using dirt) which was linked up to batteries then run through a inverter to power a home. Ten plastic buckets? Diameter(top). 11.8 in. X 3.14 X 10 = 370.52 sq inches of surface area. How many sq inches surface area / acre of land? 6,272,640 sq in. 16929 of these ten five gallon bucket systems have a surface that equals to one acre. 169290 volts of electricity could be produced per acre of surface?

  6. This lady could be powering her apartment with ten five gallon buckets of dirt? I believe so with a little research and a shovel and some five gallon buckets she could be set?

  7. the netherlands have gasfields that can provide the hole of Europe with gas for 3 years. This news item is a exhagurating of the situation. It is hyping. The man in the clip is opposition of the current gov and so he exhagurates. Bring news that reflects reality. Very few people in Netherlands go of gas. I have not heard or seen any one else in NL who has done that rather then enviremental activistic people.

  8. Sad to Say .Every day I live in a NATO county and like Russia more and more. That's a reflection on voting choices between bad and worse as our only choices when we vote, we choose the least dangerous candidate not the best.
