EU leaders struggle to agree on price cap amid energy crisis

EU leaders meeting in Prague have failed to agree on a price cap for gas.
That is despite most member states agreeing it is the best solution to bring down sky-high energy costs driven up by the war in Ukraine.
Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Prague, Czech Republic.

  1. When im listening for politicians like Ursula its obvious that EU is falling apart due to promoting German national buissness over rest if all european countries. We all have to remember that if Germans wouldnt realize so inressponsible energy dealing with russians and programs like fit 4 55, there would be no war and no energy crisis at all

  2. This Ursula is talking that Russia must be punished at all cost, mostly by sanctions. The consequences of these sanctions are worse in developing countries than in Europe. European will purchase every bit of LNG from the market with much higher spot prices, displacing many developing countries without any LNG to spare. The spot price is so good that suppliers choose to break long term contract with poorer developing countries. Some countries such as Bangladesh which relies heavily for their power generation on LNG has to cut power for more than 12 hours a day. Some schools have to be closed.

  3. I tried to impose a price cap on my local supermarket today….I guess they didn't understand it!
Next time price cap on Airbus, price cap on Mercedes, Audi, BMW… price cap on Siemens

  4. They clearly don't even talk among each other otherwise by the time of the meeting they would have known that there is opposition to the proposal!!!

  5. THE ENTIRE EUROPEANS AND THEIR LEADERS MUST NOW KICK OUT URSULA VON DE LEYEN AND STOLTENBERG FROM EU AND NATO!!.. AND PICK UP MR VLADIMIR PUTIN TO BE THEIR NEW LEADER!!…

THEN THE ENTIRE EUROPEANS WILL IN PEACE FOREVER

  6. EU need to take lesson from Britain PM decision…. Can't use every finger for same thing… Let them be free to go into open market…. Price cap with be bad solution…..

  7. You see these people don't care about people getting murdered by Russia as long as they aren't affected more loveless money people who will stab anyone in the back aka Russia, North Korea, Myanmar, China, Czech etc. to get their own way & shows their love for money out weighs any humanity / feeling of love of other people except for selfishness / corrupt people.

  8. Do not eat bread with an envious person
and crave not his tasty morsels,
because they will become a storm in your throat,
"Eat and drink!" – he says to you,
but his heart is not with you.

  9. I don't even feel sorry for Europeans. They hurt themselves by attempting to hurt Russians. When they stole russians property based on nationality, all this hate.

Doubt Russians would sell them anything after that – they are establishing new ways to sell energy to more adequate countries and build own manufacturing.

  10. Continue thieving gas from the poorer nations for a start. Borrow more money from the IMF to increase debt, and buy much US LNG so they get richer at your expense. Anyone in Germany that objects to this, can be cut off from any heating, and suffer frostbite over winter to teach them a lesson in humility. Continue sanctioning Russia, as this has been working beyond expectation, the Russian Federation is now bankrupt and cannot continue beyond next week.
