Let’s take a trip down memory lane as I talk about my first days driving over the road and discuss some of my favorite old truck stops.

  1. I’m always looking for my mixer in the background when you’re using these rt 2 clips. I see you all the time on there either going in the opposite direction or passing me going east when I’m loaded and slow. Blue and yellow mixers, you probably see us all day long.

  2. Love hearing your OTR stories. I drove short runs and worked as a mechanic for Ct. DOT for 9years. I’ve been cross country and recognized a lot of your truck stops and towns! Thanks for the memories.

  3. Back in the day when long hoods, powerful C.B. radios, two log books, 100 M.P H. rigs, and real truck stops with great food, lots of chrome, stainless steel, and “ chicken lights” were ordinary.

  4. Back in '13 I was running a '13 386 Pete 48" tall bunk and 53' utility reefer for Royal Log. Fargo ND. I'd run empty out of Dubuque IA across 20 to Rockford the south to load in Rochelle loved crossing the Mississippi River and skipping apple cores cross the ice. 20 crosses the highest point in Illinois at Gala General Grant had a place in that town. I would have LOVED to run the road at 18. I remember the old LAND. there's a LAND big in containers now. My first truck was a '94 IHC 330 Cummins no Jake 9 speed miss that truck "sometimes". The dispatcher I have now told a new driver of ours I could run 2 phones. New guy just looked at us like ? are you talking about. I get a new trainee Mon. We're running permitted overweights into Indiana. 85000 lbs gross on 40 ft tri axles.
    Be safe up there.

There is so many truck stops I've been to over the years, I can't remember them all. What fond memories.

  8. I’m an 18 year old in Canada I got my A-Z which is a Canadian CDL… I’m driving my dads dump truck 18spd eaton now. My dad has had me driving since I was 12. Trucking is in my blood same as you. I think there’s hope for some of us young guys.

  9. I was 19 and had to go to the Bronx and tow a tractor back to Lowell, I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to keep me company on the trip. She did and enjoyed it. That's when I knew I had a "keeper"

  10. That was awesome…love road stories from the day….good times, then….I liked the Green Shingle out by Erie…..I chugged a 2 litre bottle of Jolt one night between Albany and Springfield…. oye….

  11. Hey Mike great trucker stories. One of my favorite stories was from the Petro in Hubbard Ohio sitting there one night guy selling a chrome 9 mm on the CB so A guy what kind it was he said craftsman I couldn’t stop laughing for an hour! Another time I was selling a TV over the CB for 100 bucks Guy asked where he was he wanted to buy that TV he said he was behind the dumpster he was the guy were in the ski mask. Course now either don’t have one in the truck or they don’t have it turned on CB radio definitely not the way it used to be

  12. You got a few years on me Mike. I started in ‘95 with an FLD flat-top like that. The thing that stuck with me about that truck was that the Jake was on the floor next to the clutch. We didn’t have Bingo cards, and CDLs were in place. Personally, I LOVED the loose-leaf logbooks.😂 Mine always started out, “Once upon a time…”. After that I got a job with Earnest Prouty in California running large cars. Great times seeing what was left of the Golden Years of trucking.

  13. Trucker lingo I learned recently. Suicide Jockey a driver who hauls explosives. Well that's what I haul. Guess the nickname I was given some years ago of Insanity well well earned.
