โžก๏ธ Why Poor Countries Have So Many Natural Resources: https://youtu.be/6NzRQLiG4Xc

The war in #Ukraine has highlighted Europe’s energy dependence on #Russian gas. Europe is facing a very cold winter, but Norway could be the great savior. Norway is known for its great wealth and natural resources, until now providing 20% of the gas that Europe consumes.

#Norway is a country that has been able to take advantage of its natural wealth and controls a considerable amount of the world’s capital, influencing large companies such as Facebook and Apple. Much of this is due to State intervention.

Is Norway the savior of Europe, how is Norway so rich, and why does it have such an influence on the global economy?

  1. And here it goes again. "My" prime minister talking nonsense. Norway owns nothing to Ukraine. If they wish to help it would be noble of them. But no one has the right to pressure them to do so. It is the quality of a small and entitled man.

Besides giving money directly to a country with a long history of corruption and mismanagement is unwise.

The best move for everyone one would be for Norway to invest directly in business and projects riding on rebuilding Hossa. They can create profit for both them and the Ukrainians. Implanting proper mercantile values in the process.

Also, the bigger the Norwegian Sovereign Fund is the better. It is the only big player in the finance world that isn't neo-liberal. Making them a very important counterbalance for proper management focused more on the long term. Balance is always the best strategy.

  2. Norway in the 1000's:
In your lands, grabbing your gold.
    Norway in the 2000's:
In you companies, grabbing your stonks.

In heart, Norway will never change. Still Vikings in all sense of purpose, but now in suits and buisiness attire instead of gambeson and chainmail.

  3. Norway has what I call "bullshit insurance" – if you ask me, and I'm no financial advisor, but if you ask me, having at least month's salary saved at all times will insulate you from so much nonsense. Don't live at the mercy of events, ideally, the date you get paid each week / month should be irrelevant.

  4. Norway is 5.5 million people, as many as in a small American shithole in Texas, and we own 1.3% of global shares?
We cooperate with our western allies, behave, and shurely, we must have done somethings right..?
Its a Viking thing, really, mentallity

  5. Yeah, sure Norway with its population of 5.4 million and a GDP of 482 billion USD can make a huge difference to the problems of the EU with its total population of 447 million and total GDP of 14.5 trillion (i.e. 14500 billion!) USD.

Whoever writes those ludicrous headlines: Get off your drugs.

  6. Norway is indeed helping the Ukraine with military hardware. The main help will come after the war, though, when the Ukraine needs to be rebuilt. Norwegian fertilizing products (huge!) are only the beginning.

  7. Norwegian ethics seem to stand out as a positive and I wouldn't be surprised if they use some of their new found wealth to aid Ukraine but If their business model is anything to go by then it won't be in cash, it would make sense for them to set up a managed trust fund in which Ukraine and themselves would both benefit from and the profits aid Ukraine for years to come.
It wouldn't be out of the Question for Norway to invest heavily in Ukraine's oil and gas reserves with drilling etc once the war is over as it could use its knowledge in that field that it has, Also with duel management Ukraine may well adopt Norway's business model and become more powerful itself that in time would make Europe's gas and oil requirements easy between them and other producers within Europe without ever needing Russia again.

  8. We giving Ukraine most of or military equitment not even joking or own military is a joke and they giving away supplies that we lacking or self to ukraine risking or own natonal security somthing i dont like at all

  9. It's a 21st century imperialism.
Empires throughout history have 3 elements: 1) Enforcement and conquest, usually using military power; 2) Extraction of wealth and resources, either by stealing gold, enslaving peoples or creating colonies as future markets; 3) spreading a global value system and ideology to make the world more in their image.
You can see this repeated again and again with – to give some obvious examples – the Romans, Catholics, Islamist, Spanish, British, Soviet and most recently American Capitalist empires.
Norway is simply trying an alternative model. How that works, remains to be seen.

  10. Before oil in Norway: a lot of school, kindergardens, and a working health industry, cheap energy, and everyone with a job could buy a house. Today only the few rich can afford to have kids and buy shelter. A wealthy goverment that gives support to the top 1 pct, and piss away the rest – like everywhere else.

  11. Norway are helping Ukraine in any way we can during this war, and we are defenetly going to help them rebuild their country , after the war. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

  12. The truth is that when times were bad for oil and gas in the North Sea, the Dutch and British stopped investing. The Norwegians continued, and now we are being paid back for this risk. Poland's prime minister just has to sweep at his own door.

  13. why? They won't even save their own people first. Sure we are a wealthy country, but people are struggeling to pay for electricity and food these days. I will give the Norwegian goverment a big fat middlefinger!

  14. ''Australia has become the largest liquefied natural gas exporter in the world, shipping an estimated 77.5 million tonnes worth A$49 billion in 2019.

The record figure knocked Qatar out of the top spot, with the nation expected to produce 75Mt in 2019.'' The Camberra Times 2019.

So has something changed between now and then? Think Australia still holds the top spot? Could be worng though?
