NBC News’ Tom Costello joins Andrea Mitchell with his exclusive reporting on a potential flashpoint between Russia and the West, after he joined a special NATO team on patrol in the North Sea, surveilling key oil and internet infrastructure. “NATO is on guard on patrol and takes this very seriously,” says Costello. “There is a lot of stress and tension up there because they very much are aware that there is this act of Russian activity right there in the North Sea over their oil and gas pipelines, over the internet lines. They are very worried about it.”

Let's not forget that last year one of two undersea fiber optic cables connecting mainland Norway with SvalSat (the satellite system in Svalbard) was cut. This is a main link in the world's internet infrastructure. A long chunk of the it was dragged to much deeper water (8,000 feet deep if I remember correctly) and dumped. Nobody knows for sure who was responsible for this, but Russia had a ship (that boasts two submersibles) cruising right over the spot where the cable was severed. Russia has been threatening the West's infrastructure since just after 2014 when they illegally invaded Crimea and the Donbas region of Ukraine.
Interesting, I'm wondering if russia will use their new poseidon missile to do this.
