The choice to hold the European summit in Moldova, a former Soviet republic of around 2.6 million people, is seen as a message to the Kremlin both from the EU and the pro-Western Moldovan government, which received EU candidate status in June of last year at the same time as Ukraine. The crucial meeting of the pan-continental European Political Community is assembling all European nations, with the exception of Russia and Belarus. Heads of state and governments from 47 countries are focusing their attention on the continent’s south and east — a region pushed to the brink, marking a paradigm shift following Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. Moldova, Europe’s poorest country which is cradled by Ukraine on three sides, aspires to join the EU by the end of the decade, and has consistently signaled its support for Ukraine, taking in countless refugees fleeing the war. For greater insight and a deeper perspective on this “historic event,” FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen is joined by Natalia Gavrilita, Moldova’s former Prime Minister. She is praising her European partners’ use of bilateral meetings to tackle “security, energy, and connectivity.”

    1. Thanks USA and NATO members for rescuing Europe from the criminal army of Putin. East Europe have suffered under Sovjet occupation. Never again.

    2. What's the point of russian threat to free and sovereign countries.. they should be given the choice to create their own paths and not being dictated by some random countries..if Moldova and Ukraine join EU then Russia should be respecting this..as per Prigozhin, eu should"respect Russia" thus ut should goes both ways "respect your neighbors"…

    3. let's look at the Baltic countries. They are economically ruined, deserted. Romania will swallow Moldova and we will forget about it and about these people shouting about freedom!

    4. Gavrilita, you speak English better than Moldovan. Whose interests do you actually promote? 😂

    5. in Moldova, an emergency regime was introduced for repression, all protesters are declared Putin's agents, TV channels are banned, the entire opposition was thrown into a pre-trial detention center, all property was taken away from the oppositionists, in the Gadauzi region everyone votes against the Chisinau regime, and Sandu, instead of accepting their choice, begins to insult the people

    6. Western Europe and the US need to be more proactive and bring Moldova into a tighter embrace. The longer the delay the more Russia is encouraged to interfere, interrupt and grab…
