I HAVE A "SKIPPERS" LICENCE and I have spent a lot of time on the North Sea – I don't believe that Ukraine did this – OR if they did, they subcontracted it.
The North Sea is a very rough and dangerous environment, this requires ships and equipment suited to oil rig maintenance – this is NOT a 50' yacht and a scuba gear deal.

Cenk, you're not sure blowing up that pipeline "was a good idea"? Among other things, that was legally an act of state terrorism, and one that doesn't only affect Russia but a good portion of Western Europe where an energy crisis has erupted and energy prices exploded since. Nord Stream is internationally financed, run and owned. Its destruction has led Germany and other countries to rely more heavily on oil imports from the US and its close allies in the Persian Gulf region, which is very much in the interest of US foreign policy. And it is pretty brazen of Zelensky to blow up one of Germany's main energy supply lines and then demand that country help him in his other war efforts.

According to the united nations, 8.895 civilians were killed in the Russian invasion from February 24, 2022 to May 21, 2023, and 15,117 were injured. They also count 354,000 casualities among Ukrainian and Russian soldiers, while precising this number is debatable. That would make 20 Ukrainian civilian killed by the Russian government each day, and 804 if we add the soldiers of both countries. If it was steady, that would be 5,628 more next week and 24,120 next month.
At that number, we could add 14,200 casualities in Donbas alone since 2014. And millions of people were displaced or are living in inhuman conditions because of the invasion.
The russian government is the agressor, it was for almost a decade notably because they want more control over natural ressources in Europe. Their economy relies on that. So yes Ana, Russia bad. I find that way of descibing Ukrainian attack on the pipeline as merely venal, quite concerning.
So yes, I agree that we shoudn't take actions that would make these numbers even worse. Also military actions are problematic in the absence of diplomatic efforts.
But in this context I think that Ukrainians deserve a minimum compassion when concidering how they save their lives.
Russia is here to increase its territory, and kills for that. What kind of peace negociation would stop that? Giving them the lands?

TYT accusing others of escalation of war, all the while they are pushing for a peace deal, that lets Russia keep some of the territories they took by they unprovoked military invasion …thus telling them, that they can get away with taking territory, by force. Encouraging them to do it again, and again. And how is it an escalation, for Ukraine to do a fraction of what Russia is doing to them?
We keep slapping sanctions on countries like Iran. This is the closest Ukraine can come to doing the same…and to be frank, they have more reason than we do.
War escalation is bad. But Russia did invade Ukraine. I dont support Ukraine at all but if any country is attacked I'm not sure why one would think the attacked country wouldnt want to attack back as much as possible. Even up to and including Moscow in this case. I get the escalation affects everyone and wars bad and everything. Peace talks should happen. But the idea that anna thinks ppl shouldnt agree with or sympathize with ukraines desire to go all out is odd. In what war does one side do 100% defense and no offense?

Peace talks are not an option when you're dealing with an invading force like Russia. If they're ever implemented like they previously were, they will ALWAYS be used to by time for Russia and that is it. Putin will not concede until he has lost, we all know this.
