Tidal power uses the energy of moving water caused by tidal forces to generate electricity. It is a predictable source of energy, unlike other primary energy flows, because tides occur at predictable times. This predictability has an advantage over wind and solar power, because the sun may or may not shine on a particular day, and the wind does not always blow as much as expected. Join us today as we are going to learn how tidal energy will beat the wind and solar combined!

So let’s start with this question: What is tidal energy?
Tidal energy is a type of power generated by the natural rise and fall of tides caused by the gravitational interaction of the Earth, sun, and moon. Tidal currents with enough energy for harvesting form when water flows through a constriction, causing it to move faster. Tidal energy can be converted into useful forms of power, including electricity, by using specially designed generators in appropriate locations. Other forms of energy can be generated by the ocean, such as waves, persistent ocean currents, and temperature and salinity differences in seawater.
Locations with large differences in tidal range, or the difference between high and low tides, and where tidal channels and waterways become smaller and tidal currents become stronger are ideal for capturing tidal energy.

As the global demand for clean electricity, renewable fuels, and critical materials for energy and industrial processes rise, it is critical to identify and secure additional sustainable energy resources beyond what is currently available. Researchers recognize the ocean’s vast potential for producing reliable, renewable energy for a variety of applications. Wave, tide, and ocean current energy have the potential to generate enough electricity to power millions of homes, according to the Water Power Technologies Office of the Department of Energy (DOE).

    1. I have a doubt sea waves generate extremely high power but it's not easy to concentrate that power, other thing is how to built stationary mechanically working machine to withstand waves. If possible it will be great.

    2. This looks to be a brilliant idea but how does putting blockage/resistance points in the flow path of the Earth's natural motion not have negative consequences in it's path going forward from that point on?

    3. For sure, and take care no to build with any materials, without innovation and big investment expense, because that's where is the most important part of the task, on the survivability and cost..

    4. Oh wow The last thing you want to do is tax the title flow or any other flow in the ocean because disturbing the currents themselves could result in global climate change. That was taught to me as a kid in the '70s. Back when they proposed giant generators on the bottom of the ocean but would ultimately slow down the oceanic currents.

    5. Once again environmental damage will have to be caused to harness title energy. You're going to have to build a great big dams that block off intertitle zones that are principally where fish nurseries are and focus that title force into power generation. I can't imagine how environmentalist groups won't stop this because of its insane destruction of tide lands.

    6. Degree if I just realized this is an advertisement trying to create consent by the public to invest billions of dollars into more green energy. Well do your research find out what the risks are. The only thing I've heard that's good here is wave energy. Energy that's generally wasted as it crashes onto beaches. Still not a 100% reliable if you live anywhere near an ocean you know there are glassy ocean days where no waves happen and the extreme opposite is true too that storms can cause incredible wave energy. Oh well let's see if we can survive the green new deal

    7. Climate change solution for zero carbon target.

Hello, I would like to bring to your attention the open sourced, gravity driven, continuous motion, free energy generator known as the Power Multiplier Device. It is at the end of this article. Also the Grow-Live Tower that is a cylindrical structure, with a central support column, periphery support columns, and suspension cables/chains connecting the two to support the floor levels. The lower 20 levels are for the living quarters, the upper 60 levels are greenhouse levels that provide the food for the dwellers. The PMDs travel up and down the periphery columns to provide the free energy for the whole tower.
Modified PMDs can produce perpetual motion cars as well.
When the movement of a mechanism is powered by an external continuous motive power source, its movement can also be continuous. The laws of thermodynamics do not prevent this.
These PMDs would end all nuclear power generation, 90% of all petroleum drilling, all wind energy, all solar energy, and decentralize the grid to prevent any more city wide blackouts.

Also, would it make any difference to the rate of ice melt in the arctic if, at the point where the continental current begins to bring warm ocean water into the arctic ice, to cool it first up to 30 degrees? A way this could be done would be to set up pumping ship/stations that would have large diameter pipes extending down to the ocean floor where the water is much colder, then pumping it up to the surface. A large pump at the top of the pipe would just pump the first five feet of water out of the pipe and over itself, the capillary action would act to bring up the cold water would eventually out of the pipe. These pumps would be very near the ice itself to insure the cold water hits the ice before it is warmed. One pumping station might not do much, but 1,000 would.

    8. A good place to install one or more of these turbines would be on the Atlantic side of the Straights of Gibraltar. There is a powerful subsea current flowing out of the Mediterranean. This is a steam of extremely saline water. The result of limited amount of fresh water flowing into the sea which loses most of its water by evaporation..

    9. I'm so sick of leftists ranting and raving about the amazing joys of 'wind and solar'. They are the WORST of the many renewable options that could be developed if our people were collectively smarter, and stopped listening to left-wing pressure groups. Nuclear (not entirely renewable, but FAR superior to Coal, Oil, Gas, Wind and Solar) should be the first thing we develop. Nuclear technology has come SO far in the past 80 years, but building a commercial grade station is virtually impossible because of anti-nuclear activists that have been terrified from birth by 'Chernobyl" and "3-mile island". Such bull. Nuclear is, by FAR, the SAFEST form of energy generation we have. Deaths/Kw Hour produced is the LOWEST, by a HUGE margin! We should be getting HALF our domestic energy consumption from nuclear power stations. The Left won't allow it. They'd rather Biden buy dirty oil from Venezuela and Iran, like he's doing. Plus, if we ever figure out how to commercialize FUSION power (which could save our civilization), the most obvious ignition trigger would be a FISSION reactor. We should continue developing this tech, and the Left stands in the way because of COMPLETELY irrational fears. Second, is Geothermal! We have a MASSIVE geothermal power source in the Wyoming/Idaho/Utah area. It's called Yellowstone. A massive bowl of heat, just below the surface, that could be tapped to generate enough power to feed our ENTIRE NATION! I believe that with popular and political support, such a project could succeed, WITHOUT ruining the aesthetic beauty and wildlife of the National Park there. But again…..MUH ENVIRONMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PEOPLE'S LIVES! I'm so sick of misguided, uninformed political pressure groups stalling the advancement of humankind. Nuclear + Geothermal = THE FUTURE! Wind and Solar are a virtue-signaling pipe dream that will NEVER be able to meet America's energy needs.

    10. Humans don't worry about anyone other them themselves 😔 Whales are already being hurt my moving ships, now they have to deal with this sh*t 😣 Sounds like Avatar way of the water 😭

    11. Prea scumpă metoda. Șenile din lemn și compresoare de aer, pe o rețea de țevi până la mal, la rezervoare și generatoare electrice. Mult, mult mai ieftin. Și prietenos cu mediul și fără baraje.

    12. Tidal energy has been the 'next big thing' for over 30 years. The problem is that the ocean is a really bad place to locate a machine. Low cost materials fall apart and robust materials are not cost effective. The economics just are not there.
