Steel is a $1 trillion market and demand is rising. But production consumes a lot of energy – and is expensive. Are companies moving out of Europe to invest in South and North America because electricity is much cheaper there? And what about hydrogen powered ‘green steel’?

    1. By terming hydrogen produced by Electrolyzers using solar or wind energy as green hydrogen doesn't make the process really green. First and foremost, you consume way higher levels of energy to make solar modules and wind turbines, add to it the mining and processing cost of raw materials. Secondly, Electrolysis itself is a very energy intensive process. Its like consuming 100 units of electricity to produce 5 units. Basically, our issue is storage of energy and Green Hydrogen is not at all the best solution of storage. One needs apart from Electrolyzers, hydrogen fuel cells too. The capital cost of installing Electrolyzers, boilers for producing steam, and fuel cells plus solar or wind energy farms is too much.
We must find another solution for energy storage.

You can install these Electrolyzers and hydrogen fuel cells in nuclear powered submarines but not for public usage. Instead we can focus on reducing IC engine cars ' emissions to zero levels.

    2. They forgot to mention that the cheapest source of freed up Hydrogen is Natural gas and it is made by a process known as steam reformation, this process releases carbon from the natural gas and oxygen from the steam and creates carbon dioxide. Hydrogen is not cheap and doesn't generate much heat per molecule. Coal is cheap and much more energy dense. This Green steal thing sounds a little fishy to me. I'll believe it when I see it.

    3. VW Golf ID3 in China cost 17.000 euros and in Germany 40-47.000 euros. China and USA profit from sanctions NATO countries imposed on Russia.

    4. American proxy war in Ukraine has 5 objectives:

      1) decoupling EU/Russia energy sector
      2) cripple Russia economy + devalue RUB
      3) consume Russia miliary and test it's capacity
      4) isolate Russia from Europe
      5) steal gagentic Russian sovergien funds

      This report makes some sense

    5. Once EU economy was much better than USA . So USA made plan to slowly destroy EU nations. Now EU nation's directly depending on USA for weapons, Oil and gas which is expensive!!!

    6. I see a lot of people blame the USA but why not Russia? They started this war because they couldn’t accept they were no longer a great power. They are just a gas station, Saudi Arabia with nukes. They should have accepted this and worked at making life better for their citizens, not recovering lost glory.

    7. If europe had minded thier buisness instead of acting as a poodle of usa, things would not have reached this state
      1) major steel production has gone to asia and eurasia, namely china, india, japan, Russia and south korea
      2) industries have shifted to china and asia
      3) europe had a cheap oil and gas in the form of Russian oil and gas, europe shot itself in the head by sanctioning Russia
Now is the time for europe to face its demise, already widespread rioting brought france to a halt, it is just a matter of time before this spreads towards entire europe.

    8. Europeans are lazy. They want their 2 months of annual vacation while the rest of the world (USA, Asia, etc) work 24/7. Tack on the fact that Europeans hate business (aka capitalism) and want everything taxed 4,000% so businesses are forced to invest into useless government projects instead of research and development or expansion…no wonder Europe and European businesses can't compete. Lazy, unwilling to work, while the rest of the world does the heavy lifting.

    9. Germany thrives beco it enjoyed cheap energy from russia and access to massive chinese market. And now germany is distancing both, cos america said so.

    10. If making steel emits that much carbon dioxide then why isnt it banned to achieve net zero…they think its ok to kill
millions of animals because of cow farts

    11. Well, almost all heavy and smelting industry was closed in Poland because of EU low emotions policy. It is all a big lie, because China and other countries that don't care about emotions took place to fill the market. EU politicians are simply dumb or under influence of foreign powers !

    12. Wow, what a surprise… Isn't it obvious from day 1? Can't believe that you just aware of it. Or your politicians choose not telling that? Be eco friendly is important, but there must be a steadily plan, with steps. how to make it happen without de-industrialization.

    13. Water vapor is the primary greenhouse gas in earth's atmosphere so much so that it holds earth's greenhouse effect in heavy saturation to add 10°F (5.55°C) to earth's average temperature and can not be changed by noncondensing greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide. The greenhouse effect uses up all the greenhouse inferred energy within 20 meters of the surface. The United Nations IPCC science reports in the back of some 200 pages states they took their greenhouse gases at 20 THOUSAND meters altitude far into the stratosphere where water vapor is near zero and not within 20 meters of the surface where greenhouse gases are considered active. Global warming was reported at 1.1°C in 1991 then paused and went down then recovered to be reported at 1.1°C in 2022. It is common each year for temperature records to be broken.

    14. So, let me understand it right: our government decided to escalate the war against Russia and now we're moving our Steal production to another continent? Do politicians know that heavy weapons are done out of steal? USA wants to start a war against China which produces 10 times more steal than USA… I'm really worried about our political class because their ideas are INSANE!!!

    15. To be honest Europe and US are really hard to compete with China,Russia and other Asian countries. The labour cost are very high and the raw material are very expensive

    16. Dumb European leaders tricked by Trump and Geriatric Joe. The European people need to forget their friendship with the USA, friendship ha ha ha, America has made fools of the European people and has pushed them to a life of degradation. Europe needs Russia and if they take too long to apologies the gas and oil from Russia will all go to China, making China more powerful and giving them the edge on most manufacturing countries.
