A motorist was livestreaming as he sat in slow-moving traffic, when suddenly, a big rig truck barrels past him, crashing and triggering a fireball in which four people were killed. Josh McCutcheon went into journalist mode, giving a live account of the tragic accident. That was in 2019, and now the truck driver, Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, has been sentenced to 110 years in prison. A tidal wave of sympathy for the trucker resulted in 4.3 million people signing a petition demanding he get clemency.

    1. im so glad they reduced the sentence but I wish it was more. Feel bad for the guy, he's young and still has a full life ahead of him. Now he's gonna have all of this on his record.

    2. How is there any jail time? His truck (not his own vehicle) had a mechanical issue and it was not his fault but simply an accident.

    3. The judicial system is such a joke and really questionable in some parts of the world, actions have consequences but in this case it was a genuine accident outside of the drivers control, they shouldn't impose such a weight on the driver.

    4. *He knew the brakes were NOT good, if my Car is Not in Right Condition, I do Not use it or Stop it. I Would give DEATH PENALTY. 🚚 was Not Rolling on its own*

    5. Ridiculous how he got more years than some first degree murderers get. Stupid Colorado. Nobody can help it if the brakes go out on their vehicle. We lost our double-cab flatbed pickup when the emergency brake malfunctioned, snapped, and went clear out. Pickup went into the lake. Hope this guy got some kind of decent justice.

    6. Be a woman (preferably white), drink heavily and take the wheels. Then ram that vehicle over some people or cause a major accident with deaths. Be absolutely unremorseful about it.

You get a little pat on the back and allowed to kill again. Easy peasy…

    7. I am still confused as to why he was sentenced at all. There had to be some other reason besides failing to pull over at the truck stop. If not, this has got to be the dumbest decision by any justice system.

    8. I think his sentence was most definitely an overkill. Having said that, his brakes just didn't fail or malfunction. It's called "brake fade" when going down a hill too fast and the brakes wear out. He should've been in a lower gear BEFORE he started down the mountain.

    9. My uncle and father were truck drivers as family of truck drivers we know that when truck's brakes fail there's nothing really you can do except pray it's not the truck drivers responsibilities unless there a owner operator to maintain the trucks it is up to the company to inspect the trucks and maintain the trucks and when the company hire somebody that can't read English that is on the company I'm so glad his sentence got reduced to 10 years but the company needs a punishment of Their Own

    10. The governor is reducing the sentence to 10 years for Rogel Aguilera-Mederos. Polis says Aguilera-Mederos will be eligible for parole in five years, starting Dec. 30, 2026.

    12. I think a lot of these commenters missed the part where he drive straight past a runaway truck lane.

      His bad.

    13. So… the prosecutions argument is that at some nebulous time earlier, he passed a runaway truck ramp and didnt stop? Does the prosecution have evidence the breaks werent working then? Im pretty sure they had to be prior to the incident for him to even exit the damn location he started at. I dont even leave my driveway without holding the breaks at some point you know what i mean?

The prosecution should have to prove they werent working prior to the ramp for their case to make any sense at all. Im not a lawyer im just a guy with common sense. Breaks give out when they give out. Its scary and its rare, but it happens. I imagine he had just realized maybe, at most, a minute before this other guys live stream.

He was probably panicking at that point and had no where else to go. But in all seriousness for the prosecutions argument to make any sense, they have to know that his brakes gave out prior to the runaway stop. I extremely doubt they do. Its a simple case of when youre a hammer everything is a nail. All prosecutors can do is think of how you're guilty. Thats why nancy grace acts like she does lol

    14. This is insane. If he was not speeding, just his brakes broke, then he is not guilty. Chceck the company maintanence logs, the wreck etc. to sere wheter the truck was maintained properly, and if not, then sentence people responsible for maintanance (and managers, if they were forcing such loose aproach, or were cheap).
It may also happen, that everything was maintained as it should be, and there was some hidden fault in the brakes – sue the truck manufacturer then.
But the driver? He only had a bad luck to be driving this truck. He is not guilty.

    15. Its the truck company that should be held responsible its their truck and their job to make sure it has no mechanical problems and is properly maintained. Not the poor drivers responsibility.

    16. Prayers for this man and that what was meant to harm him will be used for good. Prayers for the families of the lost loved ones and that they can forgive. What a SAD story!!

    17. I wonder what they think what he was doing was wrong? Should he have killed himself and run the truck away from the road somehow?
      Dunno man
