In this video, I discuss whether Bitcoin mining wastes water.
Bitcoin mining uses water-cooled facilities and sometimes hydroelectric power, just like data centers.
If Bitcoin mining wastes water, then so does the entire internet.
BBC articles like this may be driven by ulterior motives, given that they cite sources that work for the Dutch central bank.

I knew you’d do this vid 😜
lets go first on bitcoin uni video
The FUD attacks are getting more desperate.
Oh! Matt!
What would we do without you?
You were the reason I Held on to my BTC through the last two years.
A calm reasoned voice amidst all the noise.
My Man Matt!
It kills puppies.
Sell your BTC to blackrock now!
Many drink more water each day they don’t need. The BBC is bribe friendly.
As the saying goes: follow the money. Opinions are often bought and paid for, as is the case with this BBC article. Once again, Matthew knocks it out of the park.
Good journalism doesn’t exist
Yoo, off topic. The faketoshi copa trial is soon coming around the corner, what happens if he like idk tamper with witnesses or play some dirty tricks with his deep pockets to actually win?😂
I know bitcoin will still be bitcoin at the end of the day and the network will be unaffected ofc but could it cause regulation problems or etf problems or something?🤷♂️
Buying btc from the beach in Maui this morning
Hey Matt, one question that I’ve been pondering for a while: what happens when the human species becomes interplanetary? I’m not talking about small-scale scientific bases settlements that don’t necessarily need a currency to operate, but in the far (maybe not-so-far future) when the human species has multiple independent entities. How will we achieve synchronization when the information travel time is longer than the 10 minute block time?
PS – Thank you for all the great videos.

People use water to nourish their flowers. We should prohibit people from keeping plants.
Every year the Thai people celebrate 'Songkran' when they throw water over one another. I think we should ban that as well.
We should also ban all sports that involve water, as they're for entertainment purposes only.
And while we're at it, let's remove every water fountain in the world, as they're for cosmetic reasons only.
Google used 15.8 billion liters of water in 2018 most of it to cool their data centers. So just amagine how much more is being used in 2023.
I really wonder about the guy who did that study. He probably drinks a glass of water and thinks, "Oh, darn, I just wasted that water."
Good vid. Using the term 'waste' really means that the water is not being put to a 'good' use. Does one 'waste' water when one bathes? Not me. Personal hygiene has a positive effect on my health and the comfort of people physically near me. I think that soft drink production is a waste of water, but not to Grampa Warren, who holds tons of Coca Cola stock and drinks it every day.
Short video today. But probably more time than this ridiculous attack deserved.
Hey matt, just wanna hear your opinion on saylor buying all the btc, will there be any left for the poor?
I just read this BBC article recently and I was hoping you or another Bitcoiner would debunk this nonsense
Video / topic idea: UTXO consolidation. I am researching on my own, but I'd love to hear your take. Should UTXO's be combined (given, at a low fee rate now, before BTC usage increases indefinitely)? What are the pros and cons? What small "dust" amounts of BTC would be considered useless in the future because the fees cost more than the amount being transacted?
Thanks for all you do!
I believe British citizens are forced 'by law' to pay for this so called journalism. So they don't even dare to let the market do it's work.
This water use FUD almost seems like the parody of a FUD lol.
Thanks buddy
Miners are going up today! Wall Street don’t care!
Bitcoin 🧡
Consider establishing yourself on tiktok before others profit after posting your videos.
Your videos are boring because they lack images, but seem to be the honest and real, which is why I don't watch things like cryptos R Us
Maybe BBC missed the basic water cycle in grade school. Water goes up and goes down. Rinse and repeat.
This FUD doesn't even make sense. The water is simply a vessel to move heat energy. It's not being "used up".
Similar to the article I read that some scientists said that dinosaurs were killed by climate change and not a meteor. The lack of science education is stunning.
If you read a BBC article in the woods, would anyone care?
Even if this nonsense were true; over 70% of the world is water…we do not have a water scarcity problem. Water is never wasted. It always recycles itself. That is the nature of water 😂
The British Broadcasting Corp, using American servers.
As a Brit, I can say I utterly resent being forced into paying the BBC's licence fee despite never watching any of their "services". The BBC is morally bankrupt in their leftist propaganda but don't mind prosecuting little old ladies and sending over thugs to your door if you don't pay their government enforced fee. Unfortunately our JP Morgan/Goldman Stooge Prime Minister will never take away their funding.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the BBC. This is the same organization that covered up child abuse by their employees for decades
Just another variant on the limited resources argument that sees the economy as just another way of equally distributing resources. Do they think that paying for clean water won't motivate people to come up with ways to produce more of it? It's such an ignorant place to come from.
I heard BTC waists wind
It is literally impossible to 'waste' water. Water is a renewable resource, 'using' it for cooling or anything else does not destroy it.
