The Suez Canal is the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe. The alternate route around Africa adds 9 days and 5149km to the journey. The Suez Canal opened in 1869 as a life-saver for the shipping industry. The canal soon found itself trapped in wars and political conflicts. Do you live in the west then there is a good chance that everything around you that has come from Asia has sailed through the Suz Canal before 1869 this journey from Asia to Europe by sea would be extremely long ships would have to cross the Cape of Good Hope go around

Africa Brave Pirates and storms and then enter the Atlantic Ocean in 1869 the sus Canal changed this it connected the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and became a gift to global Shipping it also became the source of problems that would haunt countries for years to come it is

The 23rd of December 2023 and sues Canal is a no-o Zone almost all ships have been rerooted to avoid the wats the implications are dangerous and expensive and you may soon have to foot the bill hello and welcome this is gravitas plus my name is Priyanka Sharma here is a map

Of the sus Canal like you can see it is in Egypt the Canal is the only entry point into the Red Sea from the north it is the fastest Crossing between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean and the shortest sea route between Asia and

Europe the sues Canal is 193 km long and 24 M deep what passes through this canal oil most of the oil tankers going from West Asia to Europe take this route in fact the majority of oil transported by sea passes through the swis canal that that’s how important this Waterway is it

Is critical to the global energy supply chain and currently it is in distress you also have tankers carrying LNG or liquefied natural gas passing through this canal and finally there’s consumer goods the sus Canal is very narrow you can see One Bank from another the Canal’s average width is around 203 M

Initially the suss Canal did not permit a two-way traffic ships would have to stop in a passing Bay and allow those in the other direction to pass until 1939 it would take 40 hours to cross the 193 km Canal now there is two-way traffic and the transit time is just 13 hours it

Is a lifesaver for ships traveling between Asia and Europe the alternate route around Africa adds 3,200 Mi or 5,149 km it also adds nine extra travel days but transiting the Su Canal isn’t easy on the pocket for a large container ship a one-way Transit permit cost as much as

$675,000 the money is collected by the Su Canal Authority and this Revenue remains one of Egypt’s top sources of foreign currency let’s talk a little history now the Su Canal had been in the making for Generations It is believed that the first digging in the area began

In 1850 BCE an irrigation channel was constructed into theadi tumat it was called the canal of the Pharaohs the toite extended the canal and linked it to the Red Sea the canal was also expanded under the Romans but neglected by the byzantines in 1798 the French occupied Egypt Napoleon personally visited the

Remains of the ancient canals he wanted a canal that would allow ships to sail directly from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean this Napoleon believed would give the French an edge in the East India trade the Portuguese the Dutch and the English were using the longer route to reach the Indian

Subcontinent via the Cape of Good Hope but Napoleon’s engineer miscalculated the level of the Red Sea and the canal remained a distant dream surveys were resumed again in 1834 in 1854 French diplomat Ferdinand deese received an act of concession from Egypt’s Vice Roy s Pasha leps would now construct the canal

Work began in 1859 laborers were brought in to dig by hand machines were introduced later the Kera epidemic in 1859 became a setback there were labor shortages labor troubles the construction took 10 years instead of six a ceremony was held on the 17th of November 1869 to open the Waterway

Initially around two ships would pass it every day by the end of 2021 that number was 56 but on the 22nd of December the live traffic looks something like this not too many ships and most of them heading towards the Mediterranean traveling in the opposite direction as a risk not

Many ships are willing to take Yemen’s houi Rebels have brought the Gaza War to the Red Sea this year on the 19th of November the houthis hijacked a cargo ship called the Galaxy leader The Vessel was on its way to India from Turkey the ship was sailing under the flag of the

Bahamas it was Japanese operated British owned and linked to Israel’s richest man Abraham Ramy unar so how did the houthis know of his connection to a Bahama’s Flagship Who provided them with the Intel there are no clear answers the houis say the seizure of the ship was in

Response to court un courot heinous acts against our Palestinian Brothers in Gaza and the West Bank they used a chopper to attack the ship recorded and broadcast the hijack the ship was then forced to change course and it was taken to Yemen’s Huda Port this was just a start

Cut to December 3rd houthis targeted two Israeli ships on the 12th of December a Norwegian ship heading to Israel was attacked 3 Days Later two more cargo ships were attacked the same day MK the world’s second largest container Shipping Company stopped Red Sea routs on the 16th of December the US Central

Command said it had shot down 14 houti drones in the Red Sea most of this action was happening in the Babel mandb Strait the strait along with the sus Canal bookends the Red Sea if a ship is going from Europe to West Asia or Asia then it enters the Red Sea through the

Sus canal and exits the Red Sea and enters the Gulf of aen through the Babel mandip straet if a ship is going from Asia or West Asia to Europe then it is the other way around the exchange of fire in the Babel Mand means that there are barely any ships traveling south

From the sus Canal also not too many ships are risking entering the Red Sea through Babel Mand oil major BP has paused all transit through the Red Sea mesk has said that its Red Sea bound ships are being rerooted around Africa shipping giants like the Mediterranean Shipping Company hapag Lloyd and others

Have followed suit why am I telling you about these developments what do they mean for you and me let me show you some headlines Red Sea insuring premium surge highrisk Zone expanded oil prices gain around 1% as Red Sea tensions persist here’s another MK CMA CMG impose container sech charges over redc

Diversions you see the search charge that the shipping companies are paying on insurance and the extra dollars they are spending on oil is being handed down to those booking the containers on board these ships let me give you an example since the beginning of the war the container

Price for ships traveling from Asia to the US East Coast has gone up 5% Asia UK container rates too have hit a record high the companies are likely to add these extra dollars to the product they are transporting it could be toys it could be containers anything so in the

Coming days be ready to pay more container shipping makes up for a third of all global Shipping it amounts to a trillion dollars worth of goods each year when key Roots like the Suz Canal are disrupted the entire supply chain gets disrupted it adds to the delivery

Time even expense the Su Canal alone has many such stories to tell in 2021 a ship was stuck in the Suz Canal ever given was one of the largest container ships ever built it was 400 m long and 59 M wide The Vessel was traveling from China to the Netherlands and was carrying

Cargo worth a billion dollars there was Ikea furniture Nike sneakers Lenovo laptops and it was knocked off course by strong winds the ship got stuck in the canal and blocked the critical Waterway there have also been instances of the canal being trapped in war after the sus Canal was built major Maritime Powers

Signed the convention of Constantinople it declared that the canal would be open to ships of all Nations and this would remain unchanged in times of War this was in 1888 cut to 1898 Spanish warships could not pass the canal during the Spanish American war in 1905 the Russians and the Japanese were fighting

The Russian Navy was denied entry into the canal during the first world war the Central Powers could not enter the sus Canal it was no different for the Axis powers in the second world war when the canal was built the Su Canal company was made in charge of its operations the

Company was controlled by the French and the British on the 26th of July 1956 Egyptian president Gamal Abdul Naser nationalized a s Canal on the 29th of October 1956 Israel invaded Egypt their forces at Advanced towards the Canal 2 Days Later British and French forces landed in Egypt and they began occupying

The area around the sus Canal the United Nations intervened the Anglo French troops had to leave and Israel had to withdraw its forces 10 years later Egypt again shut down the canal this was following the sixth day war in June 1967 it was only in 1975 that Egyptian

President Anar El Sadat reopened the sus Canal cut to 2023 the sues Canal is caught in crossfire yet again and what happens in the S affects people everywhere

  1. To address the Red Sea challenge, all that has to occur, is countries coming together, agreeing to co-ordinate and contribute Navy vessels, to secure safe passage for merchant vessels…this is not rocket science. The Suez canal, is a secondary option, at this juncture, until the Houthis settle down, and get over themselves…not so much threatening, as just incredibly annoying, which I can neither confirm nor deny….reality India, accept it, instead of fantasist talk….I'm NY Toms very British/Brazilian future wife MD, Veteran, Middle East & Cont. of Africa….we'll allow you to know, when humans are more intelligent than God and the lights of the universe…

  2. India finally realizing that this is a European and Asian problem. Conflict here will only make the US wealthier, but it’s still working with partners to try to protect commerce.

  3. The rejection of Jesus' teachings regarding our responsibility towards God and our fellow human beings is the real problem. This rejection is highly evident in various countries like the USA, Israel, Iran, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, China, Ukraine, and Russia. It is imperative for every individual on earth to follow these teachings as they are written by one of Jesus' 12 apostles, Matthew. The teachings are mentioned in Matthew 5:43-47, 7:12, 19:18-19, 20:25-26, 22:21, and 22:37-39. If we all lived by them, wars, killings, and hate would become a thing of the past. Let us pray to God our Father that the whole world is warned about the dire consequences of not following Jesus' teachings, as quoted by the apostle Matthew.
