Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton has weighed in on Tucker Carlson’s over two-hour sit-down with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it the “most interesting interview a journalist could ever hope for”.

“Now we all know much of what Putin says will be conflated with spin, deception and rigid talking points. That would shock almost no one,” Mr Houghton said.

“But for other journalists to suggest that Carlson should be punished for even speaking to Putin is quite frankly, insane.

    “The National Review reports:

‘A member of the European Parliament is calling on the legislative body to consider imposing sanctions on Tucker Carlson over his interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin, according to a new report.

‘As Putin is a war criminal and the EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort, it seems logical that the External Action Service examine his case as well,’ MEP Guy Verhofstadt, a former Belgian Prime Minister said.”

Us commentator taka Carlson has landed perhaps the most interesting interview a journalist could ever hope for this week he sat down with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the Ukraine war and the conversation goes for more than two hours let’s take a look at the start on February 22nd 2022 you

Addressed your country in a nationwide address when the conflict in Ukraine started and you said that you were acting because you had come to the conclusion that the United States through NATO might initiate a quote surprise attack on our country and to American years that sounds paranoid tell us why

You believe the United States might strike Russia out of the blue how did you conclude that it’s not that America the United States was going to launch a surprise strike in Russia I didn’t say that are we having a talk show or a serious [Laughter] conversation now we all know much of

What Putin says will be conflated with spin deception and rigid talking points that would shock almost no one but for other journalists to suggest that Carlson should be punished for even speaking to Putin is quite frankly insane the National Review reports a member of the European Parliament is

Calling on the legislative body to consider opposing sanctions on taka Carlson over his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin according to a new report as Putin is a war criminal and the EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort it seems logical that the external Action Service examines his

Case as well me guy verhofstad a former Belgian prime minister said for Carlson he explained why he thought it was not only appropriate but important to hear from Putin there risks to conducting an interview like this obviously so we thought about it carefully over many months here’s why we’re doing it first

Because it’s our job we’re in journalism our duty is to inform people two years into a war that’s reshaping the entire world most Americans are not informed Sophie when did it become a crime to interview somebody who’s controversial as a journalist well I think it’s interesting here Jack

It’s certainly not a crime to interview someone who’s controversial uh however you know it’s it’s whether they’re asking the right questions or whether they’re giving the person a free ride now this Tucker Carlson interview dropped today Australian time uh Friday morning uh and there’s a lot of people still yet to H

Watch the whole thing in full but there have been many other media Outlets that have tried to secure interviews uh with President Putin and have been unsuccessful in doing so so it’s interesting that he has agreed to do the interview with taka Carlson and a lot of

People around the world will be viewing this to see what they make of it uh I’ve watched some parts of it and there was some really interesting comments that Putin made about Evan gerovich the Wall Street journalist uh and said that he hopes to see him return to his homeland of

America which is very important I’m paraphrasing there so there’s a to take out from this interview it is two hours long Jack yeah very good points Tim Blair what what what are what are your views on the situation if you had an opportunity to sit down Vladimir Putin

Would you take it yes and I think um most journalists would uh we’d all come at it with from different angles hopefully but he’s is one of the most significant figures in the world at present um has been for some time and and prior to tuer Carlson many other

Respected journalists I.E you know respected by their peers lefties have interviewed Putin so I don’t think it’s anything extraordinary that he’s done it but you’ve got to remember um you know we’ve had circumstances where people from the ABC have been criticized for interviewing I think was Steve Bannon

Was one of Donald Trump’s advisers and then they were criticized for interviewing you know that figure of evil so you’re always getting get in trouble because you’ll be seen to be you know what’s the phrase platforming people such as Putin or whoever that we talk to but you even

Going back to things like the golf War people interviewed all manner of you know terrorists well beyond the likes of U likes of a national leader so there’s a tradition of this sort of thing yeah I mean it’s interesting I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks this but I’m

Just curious to see what he actually has to say and to to preempt it by suggesting before you’ve even heard the interview that he should be sanctioned I think it’s quite egregious

    1. Oh no. No Western leaders would want their people to hear from an enemy. That will stop the Western leaders the right to spin and make propaganda and mislead their own people. That's a crime to let their own people to know what the enemy thinks. When did Western and US leaders speak the truths and nothing but the truths to their own people?

    2. Everyone deserves to be heard. We can't know someone without hearing them. And if we truly hear someone, we understand them. He was well versed in the history of his country and the wars. He showed that he could be willing to resolve conflict. He was never offended by Carlson. He showed his view on why the current wars are happening from his own perspective. He recounted efforts to bridge the gap between Russia and the US. He seemed to be able to back his stories with documentation. It felt more sincere than anything I have heard from an Australian prime Minister or American president the last 15-20 years.

    3. This is how the journalism should be! Tucker Carlson did what any real journalist is supposed to do. What I see in Western MSM is just biased one sided opinionated reports (aka propaganda) than any real news.

    4. whether the general public believes what Putin says or not should be up to the public to decide. Who are western politicians and "journalists" to decide what we can and can't see?
Western media and politics chose to block all sorts of information from the East for about two years now to "protect us from disinformation" and my question is what are they trying to hide?

If Putin was just lying for two hours, why don't they put up "reaction videos" and debunk him piece by piece. Should be easy if they've got "the truth", right?
But they are not debunking Putin, instead they try to cancel him. That makes me think Putin is on the right side of history.

I remember a couple of decades ago the job of journalists was to report on events from all sides so that the "informed citizen" could form their own opinions, however, in the last two or three decades "journalists" have been feeding us ready-made opinions rather than information.

    5. Carlson is not a journalist. Fox News even used this as a defense when they were sued, stating that he should not be taken seriously.

He has allowed Putin to use his platform to spread his propaganda and lies across the west. Putin is a war criminal who is wanted by the Court of Human Rights.

Carlson did not challenge him once. He is not a journalist! He is not interested in the truth. He wants to undermine Western democracies and for someone like Putin to take power.

He is a disgrace. And so is Sky News Australia.

    6. If you are going to give an interview, then to a very popular journalist with the maximum number of views. And make sure that the interview has not been altered or edited. what other journalist can you suggest that meets these conditions? Tucker is famous all over the world, 160 million views a day. an interview without an editorial board. the right choice.

    7. Unfortunately this administration will do whatever it takes to cover up for Joe Biden's crimesincluding starting a wargoing after their own citizens and destroying our economy for their own personal gain

    8. I’ve watched the full interview – and Carlson giving Putin a platform to speak his own words has brought massive perspective to this. It’s not hard to see why Carlson is now hated by the high establishment.

    9. The Carlson-Putin interview is incredibly refreshing. The backlash from media organisations, on a grand scale, speaks volumes. Real journalism has been dead for more than a decade. This was stunningly obvious through the covid years and was obvious to even the lowest voltage thinkers among us. Big media and the journalists that work under these umbrellas are bought and paid-for and have to go along with insidious agendas and narratives if they ever hope to flourish and advance in their careers.

People are waking up, and it pains me to use that cliche phrase, but it's exactly what is happening. We are watching in real time the completely self-inflicted decimation and self-destruction of the western propaganda machine. It has never been more painfully obvious that free speech is being repressed, censored and replaced with force-fed narratives and agendas.
I applaud any person who is brave enough to step outside of the machine and deliver authentic and untainted information to the masses.

    10. Here you go – they call themselves democratic media, yet they are bought and paid for like prostitutes. The news reader is not interested in telling us what happened, instead he is yelling you what to think. Putin was full of lies misleading statements and weve all hear it before. Is this what we pay Sky for? To brainwash us? His only trouble is that his message fell mostly on deaf ears. A billion people actually watched the interview – which is hardly likely to have happened if most people actually thought it to be what the news reader told us it was. And a far greater audience than listened to this smirk. I myself turned him off after a minute

    11. A man talking for more than two hours without any second losing his focus, with exact dates, names… Also talking about many different themes, from the history up untill modern economy… I doubt any western polititian could do that. Not to mention Biden, he can't find a way from the stage, poor man. Whether you liked Putin or not, he is a very clever man.

    12. Tucker talking to Putin ! Well Biden can’t do it he can’t talk to anyone ! So im ok with it at least he has the balls to talk to a leader of a superpower ! We may not like Putin but he is in control of russia and those who don’t agree ask that dead military leader who threaten d him
